Maldives participates in WTM London, to host dedicated three-city roadshow in UK

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has commenced a series of marketing activities in the UK to promote the Maldives.

MMPRC, together with tourism industry partners, is participating in World Travel Market (WTM) London, one of the leading global events for the travel industry, from November 4-6.

Thoyyib Mohamed, the Managing Director of MMPRC, is heading the Maldivian delegation, which consists of 163 representatives from 63 companies from the tourism industry of Maldives.

During the fair, officials will be meeting with industry professionals to explore means to further develop and strengthen the presence of Maldives.

A press conference was also held on November 4. MMPRC Managing Director Thoyyib and top industry partners briefed international media on the latest developments in the Maldives tourism industry.

Other activities being carried out at the Maldives’ stand, which is a two-storey, 345sqm space, includes live music by Detune band, local food tasting, virtual reality experience and a raffle draw.

Meanwhile, a ‘Journey to the Sunny Side’ roadshow is scheduled to be held in Dublin, Manchester and Glasgow from November 7-11.

This event will serve as a platform for Maldives tourism industry partners to showcase their products and network with top travel trade industry partners from the UK.

Sixteen companies from the Maldives’ tourism industry have participated in the roadshow to create potential business opportunities and to further strengthen the relationship with the tour operators and travel agencies.

In addition to destination presentations and one-to-one networking sessions, a raffle draw winner will be chosen from each city to spend complimentary holidays in the Maldives.

These activities come a few weeks after MMPRC launched a marketing campaign in London, showcasing the destination at railway stations and buses.

The campaign includes digital advertisements featuring Maldives, displayed on screens at bus stops and busy train stations in London. The destination has also been vibrantly advertised on The Original Tour buses in London.

UK is one of the major source markets to the Maldives. Arrival figures from January to September rank the UK in the fifth position amongst the highest performing markets, accounting for 7.3 per cent of the total tourist arrivals.
