Maldives invites British journos for promotional fam trip

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation has brought in a team of journalists from the UK, as part of its series of familiarisation trips to promote the Maldives.

From May 20-25, the team of journalists will visit Vakarufalhi Maldives, Liyela Retreat, and The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Maldives. They will be given a chance to see the underwater beauty of Maldives, experience the local way of life through sightseeing, taste local cuisine, and take on locally popular adventures and activities such as sailing a traditional Maldivian dhoni as well as pole and line fishing.

The team, which consists of journalists from Fabulous Magazine, TI Media, Bella Magazine, Heat Magazine and The Handbook, will write articles for their respective publications based on their time and experience in the Maldives.

“The purpose of this trip is to promote Maldives as an affordable holiday destination to the UK holidaymakers,” MMPRC said, in a statement.

UK remains a major source market to the Maldives tourism industry.

Based on arrival figures from January to March, UK is ranked at the fourth position with a market share of 7.5 per cent. During this period, 36,116 British tourists visited the Maldives — an increase of 10.7 per cent over the same period last year.

“MMPRC believes our marketing efforts through this series of FAM trips will help further promote Maldives to a wider audience from this market,” the statement read.

MMPRC kicked off the series of familiarisation trips in April, starting with a team of Indian journalists and bloggers. The team visited local islands and resorts to experience off the beaten track activities available in the Maldives.
