Justin Bieber unwinds in Maldives after India concert

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber has arrived in Maldives for a getaway after his concert in neighbouring India.

Bieber was in India as part of the Asia leg of his Purpose tour and performed at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday to a 45,000-strong crowd that included A-list Bollywood stars. He was scheduled to visit several historical sites across India, but abruptly cancelled the sight-seeing tour and left India right after the concert.

Maldives Insider understands that Bieber’s private jet arrived at the Velana International Airport around 1am Thursday. He took a chartered flight on Maldives flagship carrier Maldivian to the domestic airport on Baa atoll Dharavandhoo island.

Sources said that Bieber is staying in a luxury resort managed by an international hotel chain in the southern Baa atoll. He would spend his time there unwinding before his departure to South Africa on Saturday for his concert in Johannesburg the following day, they added.

The UNESCO biosphere reserve of Baa atoll has at least a dozen luxury resorts, owned and managed by local operators as well as international hotel chains. They include Milaidhoo Island Maldives, Amilla Fushi, Finolhu, Reethi Beach Resort Maldives, Royal Island Resort and Spa, Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, Kihaa Maldives, Soneva Fushi, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, Anantara Kihavah Villas and Dusit Thani Maldives.

Indian media reported that Mumbai’s heat and humidity proved too much for Bieber. His guitar went out of tune during the concert, which he blamed on the humidity. His constant companion during the India concert was a blue towel with which Bieber was constantly mopping his forehead.

Fans of the “Sorry” hitmaker were also disappointed as he lip synced most of the songs throughout the concert.

Maldives is amongst the most sought after destinations by celebrity travellers from across the world.

Hollywood and Bollywood personalities as well as world-renowned music artists have all declared this as their favourite part of the world for a relaxing getaway. Sports personalities, including the likes of David Beckham and his family, have also fell in love with the white sands and the blue skies of the Maldives.
