Самое интригующее здесь – это два озера, сформированные из древней лагуны в самом центре острова. Согласно рассказам местных жителей южная часть острова была открыта и через неё проходил канал, соединяющий древнюю лагуну и океан. Из-за неподступного океана и отсутствия выхода из лагуны, путь на остров лежал только через канал, который защищал от морских пиратов. В свою очередь канал находился в непосредственной близости от коралловых рифов и дебриса.
Спустя годы минералы и соли вымывались из лагуны, и к настоящему времени от нее остались только два озера с чистой водой, заболоченная местность и поля таро.
Исследования показали, что дно озер покрыто распавшимися кораллами, которые превратились в белую глину. Предки людей использовали эту глину для лепки сосудов и горшков. Озера до сих пор покрыты толстым слоем глины с розоватым минералом известным среди местных жителей как «Рай Маду». С недавних пор водоемы стали охраняться законом и сейчас являются излюбленным местом жителей острова, где они встречаются с друзьями и отдыхают. Ходит поверье, что озеро обладает исцеляющей силой. Ученые обнаружили, что водоемы содержат в себе огромное количество минералов и, что, возможно, вода из них более полезная чем минеральная.
Маленькое северное озеро, известное как «Дхандимагу Килхи», любимое место отдыха по выходным, местное население устраивает там пикники, купается и рыбачит. Природные богатства этой территории повреждать запрещено, но в озерах разрешается плавать. Тростник, который растет вокруг водоема и болотистой области используется в качестве материала для плетения ковриков.
Один из туземцев рассказал историю о том, как вода из озера исцелила его сына. «У моего сына были проблемы с кожей, она быстро сохла и трескалась. Мы перепробовали много лекарств, но ничего не помогало. Тогда я взял его с собой на озеро. Мы плавали и играли, веселились и были счастливы. Когда мы вернулись домой, я обнаружил, что его кожа стала лучше. В течении следующих недель его кожа окончательно зажила и сейчас он абсолютно здоров!»
Более далекое и крупное озеро «Бандаара Килхи» на юге острова обычно остается нетронутым. Раньше в озере часто купались, сейчас местные жители делают это довольно редко, потому что оно очень глубокое, и люди просто наслаждаются живописными пейзажами окружающей среды. Говорят, что когда-то это место использовалось в качестве хранилища урожая и охраняло его от животных и насекомых. Эта была хижина, построенная на сваях в центре озера, деревянные балки которой, все еще виднеются на поверхности воды. Все собранные овощи и фрукты хранились там до тех пор, пока их не отвозили в столицу Мале.
Озеро «Бандаара Килхи» также используется в целях разведения озерных рыб. Раньше когда морской рыбы было мало, озерную рыбу активно использовали в качестве пищи. Озера Фувахмулах – это в первую очередь туристически привлекательный объект, так как они являются уникальной частью Мальдивских островов. Тогда я пошел домой, переоделся и вернулся к друзьям на озеро», – рассказчик остановился как – будто потерял мысль.
«Нам было весело, и мы перемещались сквозь болотистую местность во всех направлениях. Потом мы собрали хворост, сделали барбекю и суп. Наевшись, забрались на дерево и привязали к веткам импровизированный флаг из майки, а когда забравшись в лес, потерялись во всей этой красоте, флаг показал нам дорогу обратно к озеру». Когда он рассказывал эту историю, глаза его светились и улыбались.
«Наконец-то мы искупались. Я плыл по мелководью, так как моя подруга плыла рядом, ухватившись мне за шею. Это было абсолютно божественно, плыть по воде озера – это как принимать спа процедуры. Вряд ли можно с чем – нибудь сравнить. С ясным голубым небом на горизонте и чистой водой озера, обволакивающей тебя со всех сторон, ты утопаешь в солнечном тепле, и эти мгновения навсегда оставляют в тебе след. Это озеро – сердце нашего народа, оно связывает нас воедино».
