Bus Services Begins in Malé

Maldives Promotion House – Bus Services have been introduced, for the first time, in capital city Malé. The service was inaugurated by the President Mohamed Nasheed who took a bus to a teahouse at the southwest harbour.

The services began at 06:00AM from the Alimas Carnival with the President, local councilors and government officials on three of the buses.

During the dramatic inauguration President Nasheed and his companions stopped to experience a most local breakfast of Mashuni and Roshi at the local teahouse Alibe Kada. The ride continued from there and returned to the Carnival.

While today’s rides are free, passengers will be charged MVR5 from tomorrow onwards.

According to MVK, the bus operator, the buses will continue to travel on one route for about a week before the second route covering Majeedhee Magu and Ameenee Magu will be opened.
