Americans’ favourite holiday destination? Google says Maldives
Maldives was the top trending search destination in the US this year, according to Google.
Google released the results of its annual “Year in Search” report, which is based on the search terms that experienced the biggest growth compared to the year before, across different categories.
The results of 2019 suggest that in the US, holidaymakers fantasised most about vacationing in the Maldives, followed by Japan, Bora Bora, Las Vegas and Mexico.
Here are the top 10 trending searches for destinations on Google over the last year:
- Bora Bora
- Las Vegas
- New Orleans
- New York
- Costa Rica
The US has secured a place amongst the top 10 contributors to Maldives tourism, with 42,901 Americans holidaying in the Maldives in 2018 — a 9.5 per cent increase over the 39,180 in 2017.
That growth has continued this year, as arrivals from the US saw a growth of 28.6 per cent in the January-October period to reach 43,091 from 33,506 a year ago.
