Maldives brings in Ukrainian influencers to promote tourism
Maldives has welcomed a team of influencers from Ukraine, as part of a series of activities carried out to promote the destination.
Facilitated by local travel agency Resort Life Maldives, the 45 influencers arrived in the Maldives from Ukraine Sunday evening. Thoyyib Mohamed, Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), welcomed the group at Velana International Airport.
“These familiarisation trips have been successful. Tourist arrivals from these markets have shown a positive growth,” Thoyyib said, during the welcoming ceremony.
The Ukrainian influencers will be spending their week-long trip at Kandima Maldives, as well as Hotel Riu Atoll and Hotel Riu Palace Maldivas.
Official figures show that the Maldives welcomed 11,430 Ukrainian visitors in 2018 — a 17.6 per cent increase over the 9,722 in 2017. That growth has continued this year, as arrivals from Ukraine recorded year-over-year growth of 12.6 per cent in the past seven months of the year.
MMPRC has kicked off its own series of familiarisation trips, starting with a team of Indian journalists and bloggers. The official tourism promotion entity has so far brought in teams from the UK, China and South Korea, as well as countries from Eastern Europe.
