10 Reasons why TTM is the largest tourism industry event in Maldives

Travel Trade Maldives (TTM), the second edition of the first international travel trade show in Maldives, is scheduled to be held at the main convention centre of Dharubaaruge in capital Male from May 1-3. It is expected that along with over 140 resorts and hotels, 200 international buyers and media representatives will attend the travel trade show.

As organiser Maldives Getaways gears up for the event, find out why TTM 2018 is the biggest tourism industry event in Maldives:

  1. Spanning over four days of back-to-back events, 100 plus hoteliers, more than 200 confirmed travel agents, over 30 suppliers, and 1000 plus industry stakeholders are expected to attend TTM 2018.
  2. TTM 2018 has been endorsed and backed by Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB), Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), and Association of Travel Agents (ATA), making it the premier travel trade show of the country.
  3. Premium Exhibitors include Adaaran Resorts, Bandos Maldives, Crown and Champa Resorts, Villa Hotels and Resorts, and Angiri Resorts. A total of over 100 plus hoteliers will exhibit at TTM 2018.
  4. Over 3,000 pre-scheduled meetings will be held at TTM 2018, discussing over USD 1.5 billion worth of contracts. A special software “CONNECT” will be used to arrange the meetings.
  5. Over 200 international travel trade professionals have confirmed their participation at TTM 2018, making it the biggest travel trade platform for Maldivian hoteliers across the globe.
  6. Hotelier Summit will be attended by 150 decision makers. Hotelier Summit is a solution-oriented platform that will allow industry professionals and top decision makers to discuss future development through international alliance and collaboration.
  7. Maldives Supplier Expo is an invitation-only event where exhibiting companies can meet key decision makers from all over the Maldives. A total of 1000+ key decision makers and purchasing chiefs are expected to visit and network with the exhibitors. Exhibitors can pre-schedule up to 50 meetings via a special software.
  8. TTM Gala Night and Awards will feature a classy dinner, live music and networking amongst industry peers and colleagues, with over 3000 expected to attend.
  9. Tourism Career Fair: Exhibiting companies are given the opportunity to engage with students and professionals to portray job opportunities within the tourism industry.
  10. TTM 2017 was a huge success with over 150 international travel trade professionals and more than 100 hoteliers. Hotelier Summit was attended by key decision makers across the industry.

Maldives celebrates arrival of 2024’s 1 millionth tourist

Maldives on Thursday welcomed the one millionth tourist to visit this year.

The one millionth tourist is a Thai named Sutapa Amonwivat, who arrived from Singapore with her husband and two children. This is her second visit to Maldives.

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and the Ministry of Tourism gave a warm welcome to Sutapa at the Velana International Airport (VIA) Thursday afternoon. She was welcomed at the VIA by tourism minister Ibrahim Faisal, MMPRC Managing Director Ibrahim Shiury and senior officials of various relevant agencies.

After welcoming her with traditional offerings, she was presented with various gifts by the ministry, MMPRC, customs, immigration, Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) and Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA).

Maldives reached one million tourists in June, three weeks earlier than last year. The number of tourists reached one million on July 16, 2023.

Maldives expects to reach 2 million tourists this year.

New air route connects Chongqing to Maldives

Chongqing Airlines on Monday began its inaugural flights to Maldives.

The Chongqing-Male route, scheduled three times a week, is expected to strengthen the bonds between China and the Maldives, opening up exciting new opportunities for tourism and cultural exchange.

The inaugural flight was welcomed upon its arrival at Velana International Airport (VIA) in Maldives, where local officials and tourism representatives expressed their enthusiasm for this new development.

“We warmly welcome our friends from China to our beautiful islands. This new connection strengthens our bonds and opens up new opportunities for tourism,” the tourism ministry said on X.

Maldives currently welcomes four airlines from China, including China Eastern, Beijing Capital Airlines, Xiamen Airlines.

In January, Maldives government urged tourism stakeholders in both Maldives and China to ramp up efforts to restore China’s position as the primary source market for Maldives tourism, a status held before the onset of Covid-19.

China, being the largest source market for Maldives tourism before the pandemic, saw a resumption of tourist arrivals from January 2023 after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. In 2023, the Maldives welcomed 187,118 Chinese tourists, marking a significant recovery in numbers. This year, the Maldives has welcomed the most number of tourists from China, with over 107,940 or 11.5 percent of total arrivals by June 12.
