St. Regis Maldives kicks off ‘Spirit to Serve’ initiative by renovating local school

St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort has launched its first ‘Spirit to Serve’ initiative, renovating a local school.

Kicking off the initiative on May 24 to celebrate Marriott’s 90 years of service, the newly appointed General Manager of St. Regis Maldives Alexander Blair led the first plan of action by renovating the school in the nearby island of Hulhudheli. A team of 40 volunteers along with Blair spent four days and used 90 litres of paint to transform the school of 12 years into a home where children can cherish their youth.

The efforts of the volunteer team were met with great appreciation and gratitude by the locals. The local parents and islanders presented a remarkable feast of Maldivian cuisines to show their appreciation for the hard working team who continued even with the heavy rain and strong winds.

Sharing his thoughts and vision on the ‘Spirit to Serve’ initiative, Blair said, “We are honoured to serve the community by creating a school where children feel inspired. We want to bring a positive influence to the place where they call home and look to our next ‘Spirit to Serve’ initiative to continue our commitment in helping our community.”

Marriott International, which manages the St. Regis brand of hotels and resorts amongst others, created the ‘Spirit to Serve’ initiative to give their associates and partners an opportunity to come together and give back to their societies. The conception behind Marriott’s SERVE focuses on; shelter and food, environment, readiness for hotel careers, vitality of children, and embracing global diversity and inclusion.

The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, named in the Condé Nast Traveler 2017 Hot List, is nestled on a private island in the secluded Dhaalu atoll, amidst thriving marine life. Just 40 minutes from the main Velana International Airport by seaplane, guests are transported to a newfound paradise. The all-villa resort’s unique design, inspired by the marine setting, has been created to evoke a sense of tropical island village living. Each of the 77 villas embody the perfect combination between privacy and luxury.
