Maldives Participates in BITE 2011

Maldives Promotion House – Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) recently participated in the Beijing International Tourism Expo (BITE) 2011 fair, held in Beijing, China.

Some 12 participants from 10 companies participated in the fair that was held from 17th to 19th June. Managing Director of MMPRC Simon Hawkins also participated in the fair and gave interviews to some of the most famous newspapers, magazines, websites and radio stations in China, such as China Business Herald, TTG China and FM 86.7.

To increase the number of Chinese tourists to Maldives with the help of the Maldivian embassy in China, Maldivian Ambassador for China Ahmed Latheef also participated in BITE 2011.

According to statistics, from January 2010 to December 2010, about 118,961 Chinese tourists travelled to Maldives, thus showing a 96.1 percent increase compared to 2009.  Chinese tourists also make up to 15 percent of all tourists that arrive in Maldives. On April 2011, about 10,165 tourists visited from China, which is a 44 percent increase compared to April 2010.

Moreover a survey to find more information about Chinese tourists with the help of resorts began recently. The survey will shed light on which resorts they prefer, for how long they stay, and the purposes of their stay.
