Pete Evans, to Visit Maldives

Maldives Promotion House – Pete Evans, Australian Master TV Chef will be visiting Six Senses Laamu, the most recent Six Senses resort in Maldives.

Born in Melbourne but raised by the beach on Queensland’s Gold Coast, Peter Evans was inspired to become a chef partly due to the lure of surfing all day and working at night.

After opening his first restaurant, Pantry, in Melbourne’s bayside suburb of Brighton in 1993 with his brother David and his brother’s best friend, Daniel, Pete moved to Sydney in 1996 where the team established Hugo’s in Bondi, Hugo’s Lounge in Kings Cross and Hugo’s Bar Pizza. The latest addition to the group is the waterfront Hugo’s Manly, which opened in 2008.

Pete, who also worked as a TV presenter on both The LifeStyle Channel and Channel 9, is a regular at cooking schools and food events around Australia. He has written three cookbooks, “Fish”, “My Table” and “My Grill” and the fourth is on the way, “The Party”.

Pete’s three day visit will last from 13th to 15th of July. During his stay he will prepare a five course degustation dinner featuring several of his signature dishes. He will also prepare a four course seafood dinner the following evening, and conduct a cooking class for up to a dozen guests.

According to Six Senses, the chef will be using as much local produce as possible, including herbs and vegetables from the island’s own organic garden, as well as the freshest local fish straight from the Indian Ocean.

On 13th July he will hold a degustation dinner, with a five course menu, for up to 30 guests in the resorts LEAF organic restaurant. The menu will include Seared Scallops with Tomato and Basil (in the shell), Sweetcorn Soup with Crab Meat, Chinese-style Duck Omelette, Steamed Reef Fish with Lime and Coconut Sauce and Cranberry and Cointreau Granita.

A fresh fish supper, consisting of a four course seafood menu, will be held on 14th July. Up to 20 guests can participate in the dinner. The menu includes, Fresh Reef Fish with Yuzu Dressing, Ho Ma Pla, Tahitian Fish Salad, King Prawns and Avacado, and Pete’s Famous Chilli Crab or Lobster (based on the catch of the day).

A cooking class of three dishes, for up to 12 guests, will be held in LEAF kitchen at 11:00AM, followed by lunch. A full demonstration on how to cook a starter (Chicken Larb Salad or Prawns with Avocado), a main course (Chilli Lobster or Crab), and a dessert (Cranberry and Cointreau Granita), will be given.
