Vilamendhoo Island Resort celebrates World Environment Day, Oceans Day

Vilamendhoo Island Resort and Spa has celebrated World Environment Day and World Oceans Day 2018.

World Environment Day and World Oceans Day, two of the biggest annual events for positive environmental action, encourage us to build awareness and drive actions towards reducing plastic consumption globally under the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”.

This year, Vilamendhoo guests joined in a tree-planting activity in a bid to plant the future and an activity that will allow guests to see their plant and efforts grow on every return to the beautiful resort over the coming years.

The activity was followed by an informative, behind-the-scenes tour of Vilamendhoo’s operation, giving insight into how the resort maintain sustainable operations, from its fresh water and water bottling plants using glass bottles instead of plastic.

“With a house reef that hosts over 150 species of tropical fish, including the majestic whale shark, reef sharks and a variety of rays, Vilamendhoo aims to continuously protect and preserve the marine ecology through initiatives such as these and the daily commitment towards sensitising both guests and staff to our fragile environment,” a statement by the resort read.

Located in South Ari Atoll and accessible by a scenic 25-minute seaplane transfer, Vilamendhoo is surrounded by a beautiful lagoon, an excellent house reef and long stretches of white, sandy beach. The resort offers accommodation in 184 rooms, including 30 Jacuzzi Water Villas, 30 Jacuzzi Beach Villas, 111 Beach Villas and 13 Garden Rooms.
