World Travel Writers’ Conference in Maldives launched, Maldives Insider signs up as partner

State media’s Maldives TV has launched the first ever global travel writers’ conference to be held in the Maldives.

Fifteen participants, including eminent travel writers, bloggers, vloggers, photographers and social media influencers, from 10 different nationalities across the globe are set to attend the two-day World Travel Writers’ Conference, which includes keynote speeches and panel discussions at Bandos Maldives resort on Sunday followed by a gala dinner with networking sessions at Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi resort on Monday.

Themes set for the keynote speeches include:

  • Progressive economy and sustainable tourism
  • Sharing experiences and the art of storytelling
  • Keeping a memory to a moment otherwise gone
  • Bringing the travel destination story to life through immersive technology

Expert groups will express their views and experiences during the panel discussions on topics such as:

  • Turning factual travel stories into crafted narratives
  • Storytelling through digital: every travel experience starts with a search
  • Are luxury destinations failing in their storytelling?

“The conference engages global travel writers, photographers and social media influencers in experiencing the exquisite scenery, delectable cuisines, thrilling water sports and luxurious accommodation in the Maldives,” a statement issued by Maldives TV read.

“This would be followed by a published review by these world-renowned and award-winning international exposure, and attract new and repeat travellers from all over the world and tap specific target markets.”

At a ceremony held at Hotel Jen in capital Male Wednesday evening, partnership agreements were signed for the World Travel Writers’ Conference.

Adaaran Resorts Maldives and Coco Collection signed up as platinum sponsors, while Kandima Maldives and Bandos Maldives were named gold sponsors, and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Hotel Jen as silver sponsors.

Associate partners include the tourism ministry, economic ministry, customs service, immigration department, Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), Liveaboard Association of Maldives (LAM), Maldives Getaways, Maldives Insider and MVHotels.

Qatar Airways was announced as the airline partner, while VIVA signed up as the event partner and Print Lab as the printing partner.

The events were held to highlight the company’s recent rebranding and to familiarise travel agents with the significant changes made as part of its strategic Blue Ocean Shift.

Villa Resorts has a significant market presence in India, and the events were part of the company’s ongoing efforts to work closely with its partners to showcase its transformation and enhancements in its products and services.

The familiarisation events drew over 200 participants, making it one of the largest series of events for travel agents ever hosted by a Maldivian resort group.

Villa Resorts plans to continue hosting similar events throughout the coming year to promote its growing portfolio of resorts to the Indian market.
