The Ritz-Carlton Maldives marks Intl Volunteer Day by supporting local communities

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands supports the local community by donating books to Dhonbandarain pre-school of Huraa, a neighbouring local island in commemoration of the International Volunteer Day 2020 for Social and Economic Development, an international observance mandated by the United Nations since 1985.

Valuing this year’s theme ‘Together We Can Through Volunteering’, the Ladies and Gentlemen of the soon-to-open Ritz-Carlton Maldives contribute to this great cause by touching the hearts of the young generation through education.

As the first initiative under the brand’s Community Footprints project, a global outreach project designed to make a change in child well-being, hunger and poverty relief, the resort takes this opportunity to connect with the nearby local island, Huraa, aiming to make a meaningful difference.

“At The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, we strongly believe in lifting local communities by engaging, contributing and inspiring. We are delighted to take the first step to initiate the Community Footprints project in the Maldives with this meaningful gesture, by inspiring the next generation of future leaders” Mark Hehir, the General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, said, in his speech at the donation ceremony held at the Local Government Authority in Male on 21st December 2020.

The resort commits to initiating more projects in the upcoming months to tackle the issues important to the local communities. After all, the brand has built a legacy of extraordinary service, on a tradition that goes beyond serving loyal guests but extended to inspire and impact the communities.

Set to open in 2021, the debut Maldives resort by The Ritz-Carlton is ideally located at Fari Islands, in the North Male Atoll of the Maldives. It is a 50-minute journey by speedboat or a 10-minute seaplane flight from the main Velana International Airport.

The resort features white sandy beaches, turquoise lagoons and coral reefs with marine life.

Shaped by the Maldivian sun and shored by the Indian Ocean, guest villas at The Ritz Carlton Maldives, Fari Island are expected to range in size from one to three bedrooms, featuring the refined elegance and legendary service that define The Ritz-Carlton brand.

The property is also expected to offer a choice of outstanding culinary venues serving an array of international and local cuisines, in addition to a full suite of fitness and recreational facilities including a signature Ritz-Carlton Spa.

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives is part of Fari Islands, an archipelago that features three world-class hospitality brands inclusive of The Ritz-Carlton.

The guests are expected to have access to a picturesque Fari Marina – the archipelago’s communal beating heart. Built around a vibrant Beach Club, Fari Marina features charming boutiques and a handpicked selection of dining options.

Spaces have been designed by the renowned Kerry Hill Architects, to bring about a delicate balance of serene and social.

Part of Marriott International, the iconic Ritz-Carlton has 101 luxury hotels and resorts in 30 countries and territories.

Villa Nautica’s festive glow: Yoga at sunrise, fireworks at midnight

Villa Nautica will embrace the festive spirit from 20 December 2025 to 6 January 2026, offering guests an easy island rhythm that flows from bright mornings by the water to music-filled evenings on the sand. The season begins with illuminated beaches and relaxed barbecues, gradually building through creative afternoons and live performances. Christmas Eve will feature a gala dinner, followed by Santa’s arrival on 25 December. The celebrations will culminate in a vibrant New Year’s Eve countdown with fireworks, before settling into a calm reset on New Year’s Day and concluding with Orthodox Christmas.

The programme balances practicality with a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. Mornings will bring sunrise yoga, family pool activities, and interactive cooking sessions, while evenings will feature poolside soirées, wine-paired dinners, and sunset cruises. With simple yet photogenic settings, the lagoon and sky take centre stage in shaping the mood. Guests—whether couples, friends, or families—can participate freely without losing the island’s easy pace.

For younger visitors, the festivities will centre around the kids’ club, where cookie and cupcake decorating, beach games, origami and craft sessions, storytelling, and cosy movie nights will take place. Small groups and attentive care ensure that creativity and play remain the focus, allowing parents to enjoy uninterrupted moments around the island.

A highlight of the season will be the Champagne Lucky Draw & Disco. From 1 to 31 December, each bottle of champagne purchased at resort bars or restaurants will serve as an entry to the draw. Guests are advised to keep their entry stubs for the live draw, held at 01:00 during the New Year’s celebration, where the prize will be a seven-night stay in a Water Villa for two.

Throughout the festive period, private experiences will feel as memorable as the larger celebrations. Guests may enjoy candlelit dinners on the sand, floating breakfasts, or early morning snorkelling sessions to begin the year anew.
