Music, Michelin stars to collide at Siyam World Maldives’ first birthday bash

True to form, Indian Ocean iconoclast Siyam World is going big for its first birthday with a four-day fiesta featuring some famous faces from UK music and culinary scene.

Kicking off on 28 October – the day of the resort’s first anniversary – the celebrations begin with a stellar stage show and end with a thrilling Resident Evil-themed Hallowe’en party, via a series of pool parties and a three-day residency by acclaimed Chef Tom Brown of London’s Michelin-starred Cornerstone.

Featuring fire dancers, acrobats and the Maldives’ first self-taught female sand artist; mind-blowing mashups and conceptual covers from ONEVIOLIN; and a floor-filling set from Tinie Tempah’s official tour selector DJ Charlesy, the first night’s festivities will peak with headline sets from platinum-selling British artists Yungen and Tom Zanetti.

Born and raised in Leeds, DJ, music producer, rapper and singer Tom Zanetti is best known for his songs “Darlin’” (2015) and “You Want Me” (2016), which received silver and platinum BFI certifications respectively. Zanetti has since amassed over 20 million streams and 2.2 million monthly Spotify listeners, and recently achieved his first Top 20 chart single as an independent artist with “Didn’t Know”. South London grime artist Yungen first gained recognition for his 2011 F64 freestyle video for SB.TV, and by 2015 had been nominated for Best Newcomer at the MOBO Awards. His biggest hit, “Bestie” featuring Yxng Bane, reached the Top 10 in the UK Singles Chart in October 2017, went platinum in February 2018, and currently has over 55 million streams on YouTube.

Also performing live during the anniversary celebrations, multi-genre artist DJ Charlesy’s trusted reputation as a technically skilled selector with a talent for getting people dancing was established on the London club scene. Best known as the official tour DJ for multi-platinum rapper Tinie Tempah, Charlesy has performed around the globe from Ibiza and Las Vegas to Australia and the UK’s world-famous Wireless, V and Glastonbury Festivals. Boundary-breaking Finnish talent, ONEVIOLIN, meanwhile will astonish guests with his unique concept, conjuring covers of global hits using only sounds from a single violin.

In addition to the gala opening night concert, each of the special guest artists will also perform standalone shows across a four-day programme of festivities and pool parties, culminating in a Resident Evil-themed ‘Umbrella Corporation’ takeover on Hallowe’en, complete with roaming zombies and haunted house. For those who prefer their party on a plate, one of the UK restaurant scene’s most exciting young talents, Chef Tom Brown, will grace the resort’s kitchens for a series of Chef’s Table dinners, elevating the freshest local fish and seafood with the originality and lightness of touch for which his is renowned.

Sun Siyam Olhuveli kicks off festive season with Charith N. Silva Cake Mixing

Sun Siyam Olhuveli has ushered in the holiday season with a new twist on its much-loved annual Festive Cake Mixing event, held on 23 November. This year, the celebration was led by acclaimed Sri Lankan chef and viral social media personality Charith N. Silva, the creative force behind @wildcookbook and one of South Asia’s most influential culinary storytellers.

Charith, a sensation across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram with an audience of several million, is widely recognised for his bold fire-cooking techniques, visually striking outdoor food rituals, and distinctive, high-energy narrative style. He recently secured a coveted place on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2025 list in the Arts (Art & Style, Food & Drink) category, underscoring his growing influence on contemporary food culture in the region. He is one of a new wave of young chefs blending local flavours with global inspiration and is the owner of the restaurant “Wildish” in Colombo.

Bringing his creative flair to Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Charith said, “Bringing my energy to Sun Siyam Olhuveli was surreal; the people, the Maldivian spirit, the flavour play, everything clicked into one unforgettable festive moment.”

This year’s cake mixing unfolded like an island celebration, complete with lively music, bursts of aromatic spices, and an energetic atmosphere. Resort teams and guests layered fruits, nuts, and spirits in a spirited display, with Charith driving the momentum through his trademark spontaneity. The result was a vibrant, social, and playful reimagining of a classic festive tradition.

Royal Island has announced its festive 2025–2026 programme, titled “Island Traditions, Festive Glow,” inviting guests to celebrate the season on a laid-back Maldivian island illuminated by lanterns and framed by palm trees and calm lagoon views.

The programme has been crafted to evoke warmth, atmosphere, and a strong sense of place. Days follow an unhurried rhythm, centred on family-friendly activities such as island-inspired games, children’s treasure hunts, craft sessions, palm-leaf weaving, and relaxed poolside gatherings. As evening approaches, the island shifts into a gentle social mood, with live music, retro disco nights, white parties, and informal after-dinner beach gatherings where guests are encouraged to linger under the stars.

Christmas at Royal Island combines familiar traditions with Maldivian touches. Guests can enjoy a beachside tree-lighting ceremony, Christmas Eve cocktails, and a festive gala dinner followed by an upbeat party featuring a mix of classic and contemporary music. On Christmas Day, Santa makes a tropical arrival by the water, while a children’s fashion and talent show keeps younger guests at the centre of the celebrations.
