Maldives a Bollywood Favourite

Maldives Promotion House – Over the past years Maldives has become the most favoured destinations among the most famous Bollywood stars. While Bollywood movies are very popular among Maldivians, numerous Bollywood films have also been filmed in the magnificent resort islands dispersed all over the country, and the most widely read Magazines all over the world have carried many photographs of celebrities in Maldives.

While Maldives is famous all over the world, its popularity in among those from the Bollywood and India has increased exponentially. Our neighbouring India lies only a few miles away and there are two direct flights to Maldives and multiple connecting flights. Plans are also being made for passenger ferry services between the two countries.

Famous Bollywood stars who visited Maldives in the recent past include Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. Famous Bollywood couples such as Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor have also visited Maldives. Salman Khan and Bollywood couple Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora Khan, have also declared Maldives as their favourite holiday destination.

While the list continues endlessly, many people around the world have visited or dream of visiting Maldives. Many celebrities have visited Maldives over and over again to experience its sonorous bliss. Some of the most recent visitors include Soha Ali Khan, Yana Gupta and Celina Jaitley.

According to Maleeh Jamal, the Secretary General of Maldives Association for Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), India is an emerging market for Maldives and shows a lot of potential and success. During 2010 Maldives welcomed 25,756 tourists from India with a 62.5 percent growth compared to 2009. After lowering Korea to the fourth place, India has become the third most important market in Asia for Maldives, after China and Japan.

While Maldives is well known as the perfect and romantic dream island destination, much of its beauty lies beneath the white beaches. The breathtaking underwater scenery adds much more to the unique nation’s stunning islands.
