Maldives Promotion House – Last Saturday Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation (MMPRC) and Singapore Airlines hosted the inaugural ‘Discover your Island’ event at Nasandhura Palace Hotel. Aimed at creating networking opportunities for the local hoteliers, the event was visited by 37 agents from 33 different Travel Agencies and Tour Operators from China, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and Korea.
With its close proximity and affluent outbound market, East Asia holds great potential for growth in the Maldives. There were 145,764 tourist arrivals to the Maldives from East Asia between January and July 2011. This accounts for a share of 28.7 percent of total tourist arrivals to the Maldives from this region. Currently Singapore Airlines operates 10 weekly flights to the Maldives.
Resorts such as Kurumba Maldives, Anantara Resort & Spa Maldives, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa, Bandos Island Resort and Spa, Meeru Island Resort, J Resorts Maldives at Alidhoo, Holiday Inn Kandooma and Sheraton Maldives at Fullmoon Resort, showed extreme support during the event and in hosting the agents. Moreover Singapore Airlines also showed much support.
In addition to this, the MMPRC invited the local Maldivian travel agencies and operators to join the event and network with this important audience. At the end of the event, a raffle draw was held and two visiting agents won holidays to the Maldives. The announcement created a real buzz and it was a stylish end to a successful day. The two holidays were generously donated by Meeru Island Resort and J Resorts Alidhoo.
