Coco Collection celebrates Earth Hour, launches plastic collection scheme
Coco Collection has launched a plastic collection scheme as part of its celebration of Earth Hour.
The single-use plastic collection scheme, carried out in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, was inaugurated at Coco Collection’s corporate head office in capital Male.
An awareness session was also conducted to enlighten associates about ‘Coco Dreams Green’, the group’s green initiative aiming to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic across its brand.
“Our long-term goal is to bring the amount of single-use plastic on our islands to zero. As part of this ongoing campaign, at the end of the year, we will be hosting an artistic event to highlight the effects of plastic pollution on our environment. This event will showcase a unique way to address the issues of plastic and promises to be an exciting opportunity to learn and to create,” a statement issued by Coco Collection read.
Meanwhile, the exquisite island resorts of Coco Bodu Hithi and Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu joined the team at the corporate head office in switching off all non-essential lights and appliances on March 30 at 8.30pm.
Embracing this year’s Earth Hour theme of ‘Nature Matters’, Coco Bodu Hithi and Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu also conducted a unique guided nature walk through the resorts, where guests learned more about the tropical flora, fauna, and wildlife of the islands.
Earth Day festivities at Coco Bodu Hithi started off with an ‘Earthly Snorkel’ in celebration of our oceans, followed by a beach and reef clean-up. In the afternoon, guests reconnected with nature through the resort’s annual tree planting programme. Later in the evening, guests took part in an enlightening eco-awareness session on the importance of protecting our biodiversity.
At Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, guests were invited to join the team for a revitalising yoga session on the beach, under the moonlight. In the evening, they had the luxury to dine under the stars at a candlelit beach barbeque, with live music woven with the sounds of the ocean.
Three islands — Coco Bodu Hithi, Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu and Coco Privé — comprise the Coco Collection brand.
Coco Bodu Hithi, the flagship property in Coco Collection’s portfolio, is a chic retreat where you reconnect with yourself, your loved ones and the wonder of the natural world. Translating island life into contemporary sophistication, the resort, which is accessible by a 40-minute speedboat ride from the main Velana International Airport, offers 100 villas that are surrounded by the calm view of the lagoon and the soothing sound of the waves.
With seven restaurants and bars, Coco Bodu Hithi celebrates and offers a variety of exquisite cuisines, taking inspiration from the Maldives and further afield.
An award-winning wellness zone on stilts over the clear water, Coco Spa is a sanctuary for the soul. Mindful of the healing properties of nature and the ocean, the spa is designed to retreat for an escape, whether a massage in one of the eight treatment rooms or yoga on the pavilion overlooking the ocean and beach. With a range of products from the Paris label Thémaé combining the healing properties of tea, therapists at Coco Spa are trained in techniques to treat the mind, body and soul. An overwater gym within the zone inspires guests to keep up with their regime of active well ness when away on a holiday.
