Hideaway Beach Resort shines as Maldives’ most picturesque resort at TTM Awards 2023

Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa has announced its momentous victory in the 7th edition of the Travel Trade Maldives (TTM) Awards.

At the grand TTM Maldives 2023 Gala, Hideaway was honoured with the prestigious “Most Picturesque Resort” award, a testament to its commitment to providing unparalleled luxury amidst its breathtaking natural surroundings to give guests the ‘True Maldivian Luxury Experience’ at its relatively untouched location in north Maldives.

Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa winning the “Most Picturesque Resort” award reaffirms its position as a world-class destination that harmoniously blends luxury, natural beauty, and unmatched hospitality. Located in the stunning Haa Alifu Atoll in north Maldives, the resort is renowned for its unspoiled white-sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters of varying degrees of blue, and lush-green tropical landscapes – truly an untouched beauty!

The resort also stands as a testament to nature’s unspoiled grandeur. Unlike the bustling resorts in the central Maldives, this secluded paradise up in the north boasts a unique charm, where the competition for the best diving and excursion spots is refreshingly scarce. As a result, Hideaway emerges as not only a breathtaking island retreat but also an underwater haven of unparalleled picturesque wonder. Here, the true essence of tropical luxury unfolds both above and below the surface, promising an experience that transcends imagination.

This award also affirms the resort’s concept of offering a castaway experience with relatively a smaller number of villas in a large island, thus resulting in unparalleled space and privacy for each and every guest.

“Hideaway’s unwavering dedication to providing guests with an exceptional experience that combines luxury, nature, and serenity in the unparalleled beauty of the Maldives is the secret sauce to its success over the years,” the resort’s Commercial Director Abdulla Nabeel said.

Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa has consistently set the bar for excellence in the Maldivian hospitality industry – especially as locally owned and operated resort. The resort’s luxurious villas & residences, overwater and beachfront accommodations, award-winning restaurants, a wide array of recreational activities, and the inclusion of exclusive novel experiences such as its 5-hole putting green and floating aqua park have made it a sought-after destination for travellers seeking an idyllic tropical getaway.

Basking in the glory of its prestigious “Most Picturesque Resort” award, Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa proudly epitomises the breathtaking natural beauty that defines the Maldives. At Hideaway, every vista is a living postcard, a captivating testament to the paradise that surrounds the island. In addition to this stunning backdrop, the resort embodies the warm and gracious hospitality that the Maldives is celebrated for across the globe, ensuring that the Hideaway guests experience not just a destination but a true journey into the heart of tropical luxury.

BBM’s ‘Studio of Culinary Excellence’ opens at MNU to bridge classroom, industry

The best way to secure the future is to create it.

Creating that future through specific, purposeful initiatives is what drives people of purpose—and, in turn, moves us all closer to the future we desire.

The Maldives is a compelling case study of a tourism-driven economy. Look around and ask why an event is being staged, what someone is working on, or where a new initiative is leading, and the answer will often point to the hospitality sector. Securing the future, therefore, is inextricably linked to strengthening and advancing that sector.

Here, “strengthening” means making the sector’s contribution more sustainable; ensuring that a greater share of its growth benefits the community; continuing to offer a compelling value proposition to the discerning global traveller; and ensuring that visitor experiences continue to generate an unparalleled reputation and valuable referrals.

To achieve these outcomes in the future, it is essential that current and future generations of the local community engage actively with the industry. Making hospitality appealing and aspirational, enhancing the quality of delivery and service, and building a pipeline of skills and talent into the sector are areas in which initiatives, inspiration, infrastructure and investment should be concentrated.

It is firmly in this context that Mr Ismail Hilmy, Chairman and Managing Director of BBM, initiated the establishment of a modern, exceptionally well-equipped and thoughtfully designed model kitchen, aptly named the Studio of Culinary Excellence. By donating the Studio to MNU, under whose auspices it will serve the Maldivian culinary community, Mr Hilmy is responding directly to the need for deeper community engagement. At the heart of BBM’s framework for industry-outreach initiatives— “Because tomorrows start today”—is Mr Hilmy’s ethos of fostering engagement and vibrancy in the industry.

“For our students, the gap between the classroom and a working resort kitchen has always been the hardest one to close,” said Dr Shehenaaz Adam, Vice Chancellor of the Maldives National University. “The Studio of Culinary Excellence closes that gap. Students can now train on the same equipment and to the same standards they will encounter on their first day in the industry. We are grateful to BBM for a partnership that goes well beyond a donation, and we look forward to the Studio becoming a place where the university and the industry learn from one another.”

The Studio therefore creates an opportunity to develop a pipeline of skills and talent in service of the industry.

“Embedding purpose in our work has been an ongoing endeavour at BBM. It keeps us connected to our stakeholders and builds insight, understanding and trust. Being a meaningful partner to academia as we move into the future gives us a great sense of fulfilment and guides our initiatives under the banner, ‘Because tomorrows start today,’” said AVS Subrahmanyam, Chief Operating Officer of BBM.

But what is the value of physical infrastructure without the corresponding spark of aspiration and ambition?

As Ali Afrah Hassan, Executive Representative at Chairman’s Office – BBM, aptly observed: “The Studio offers students and members of the community hands-on experience with world-class equipment, together with knowledge-sharing masterclasses. Who knows—in the not-too-distant future, a Michelin-starred Maldivian chef may fondly credit some of their inspiration to time spent at the Studio!”

Now that is the mind and heart in sync—working towards a future that is aspirational, ambitious and entirely attainable.

Vanessa Goodman joins Pullman Maldives Maamutaa for Vibrance Week

Published

Pullman Maldives Maamutaa has announced wellness expert Vanessa Goodman as its resident practitioner for Vibrance Week, a six-day wellness programme taking place from 21 to 26 September 2026.

Held under the theme “Relax, Restore, Revive”, the programme will introduce guests to a series of experiences centred on movement, recovery, mindfulness and personal wellbeing.

According to the resort, Vibrance Week reflects its approach to wellness as an ongoing, holistic practice rather than an experience limited to a holiday. The programme is intended to help guests reconnect, recharge and develop practices that can support balance in their personal and professional lives.

Goodman brings 14 years of practice and research into the relationship between movement, breath, emotions and the nervous system. Her approach considers movement not only as physical exercise, but also as a tool for developing strength, confidence, self-awareness and a deeper connection between physical and mental wellbeing.

During the week, Goodman will guide guests through a framework built around three areas: purposeful movement, safe physical challenge, and the balance between performance and recovery.

The resort said the programme will encourage participants to work towards physical goals while remaining mindful of their individual limits, with recovery and restoration incorporated alongside more active sessions.

“Vanessa’s philosophy aligns perfectly with this vision. For her, movement goes far beyond physical exercise — it is a strategic pathway to building inner strength, confidence, self-awareness and deeper cognitive connection,” Pullman Maldives Maamutaa said in announcing the programme.

Vibrance Week forms part of the resort’s wider focus on experiences designed around wellbeing and lifestyle, combining guided activities with its island setting in Gaafu Alifu Atoll.

The programme will run at Pullman Maldives Maamutaa from 21 to 26 September 2026.

The award was announced at the Global Destination Awards ceremony in Moscow, an international luxury travel event bringing together leading hospitality professionals, international hotel brands, travel experts, celebrities and prominent travellers. The awards recognise outstanding destinations, hotels, resorts, restaurants and personalities shaping the global luxury travel landscape.

Located within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, Finolhu is known for an aesthetic that deliberately departs from conventional interpretations of Maldivian luxury. Across its 125 villas, restaurants, bars and social spaces, Finolhu’s visual identity is characterised by an eclectic mix of influences and a sense of individuality. From beachfront and overwater villas to the resort’s celebrated two-kilometre sandbank and the barefoot setting of Crab Shack, design is woven throughout the guest experience.

The recognition also reflects Finolhu’s wider identity as the Island Playground, where design is complemented by a year-round programme spanning art, gastronomy, wellness, sport and entertainment. Visiting artists and creative collaborations form an important part of this approach, allowing guests to engage with creativity through immersive experiences and encounters throughout their stay.
