Keep Your Gut Buddies Happy
Maldives.net.mv – Preparing wonderful culinary experiences for guests is a privilege for hosts at Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas. They love what they do because it is creative and rewarding. And with the ultimate indulgence for mind and body at the forefront, Six Senses is introducing delicious and nutritious smoothies and juices that incorporate important nutrients to keep the trillions of cells that make up the microbiome (pathogenic microorganisms that enjoy a mutualistic relationship with the human body) in balance.
Cutting edge research from Dr. Steven Gundry’s institutes, The Center for Restorative Medicine and The International Heart and Lung Institute, both in California, has shown that feeding the body’s microbiome nutrient dense fibers and resistant starches dramatically improves overall health. Moreover, healthy gut bacteria (Dr. Gundry calls them gut buddies) has been shown to improve mood and attitude.
Dr. Gundry serves on the Six Senses Wellness Board and has been collaborating with Six Senses in reviewing all menus and enhancing them so guests can enjoy the same great taste, but prepared in an even healthier fashion. The project is called Eat with Six Senses. Chefs are creating low-sugar and low-sodium items, gluten-, soy- and hormone-free options, identifying 90 to 100 percent of menu items as organic and keeping a close eye on lectins. The first project Dr. Gundry worked on, in tandem with Nutrition Consultant Patrick Wahlberg and Sophie Bohnstedt of Sophie’s Raw in Stockholm, is the smoothie and juice menu.

Six Senses is committed to serving refreshing, tasty juices and smoothies that feed gut buddies life-giving nutrients. And as a result, the new menu includes drinks that include a variety of vegetables, herbs, spices and fruit that contain lower amounts of fructose. In addition, the drinks provide a nutritionally rich boost of concentrated micronutrients … it’s like a supplement in a glass.
Guests who select to join one of the Six Senses Integrated Wellness programs: Cleanse & Detox; Sleep & Resilience; Trim & Fit and 100% Full Potential, are guided to which juices and smoothies are best suited to their wellness regime. For those not on a program, they will find the selections equally tempting and nutritious.
For those on the Cleanse & Detox program, the Green Senses juice is packed with ingredients to promote and support detoxification such as kale and broccoli. They also include fennel and parsley which are filled with antioxidants; cilantro which binds heavy metals; ginger which offers anti-inflammatory properties and pineapple which is rich in vitamin C as well as the enzyme bromelain.
Smoothie guests should try the Coco Nap to assist with sleep. It’s velvety and refreshing and contains young coconut, papaya, lemon balm and lime. The Trim & Fit smoothies, such as The Hulk, aid post workout recovery and muscle growth. The creaminess of macadamia nuts together with spinach and the richness of exotic spices make this a delicious green smoothie with a hint of Brazil nuts. This smoothie also works very well with protein powder.
Eat with Six Senses, a group-wide menu revamp that features low-sugar and low-sodium items, gluten-, soy- and hormone-free dining options, launches in 2017 at all resorts and spas. In addition to serving seasonal and sustainable food items, 90 to 100 percent of menu items will be organic. Efforts also include the reduction of lectins found in grains, beans and nightshades which cause chronic inflammation, digestive problems and degenerative conditions in some people.

A fifth-generation Ayurvedic physician, Dr Jithurag continues a 300-year family lineage rooted in holistic balance. Trained within the Rameswaram Tantric tradition, he blends Ayurvedic principles with elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine, integrating marma therapy and acupuncture with Reiki and Pranic Healing. Using wellness screening technologies to assess biomarkers, he designs tailored treatment plans. Guests may book a complimentary consultation and choose from signature therapies such as TCM Acupuncture, Cupping Therapy, Marma Abhyanga, and Back Restoration Therapy.
Holistic therapist and Ayurvedic healer Sharath Ram brings more than 16 years’ experience in supporting physical, mental, and spiritual balance. His work combines Ayurveda with energy practices and therapeutic yoga to encourage both recovery and transformation. His specialities include Chakra Inner Energy Balancing, Ayurveda Deep Fusion Therapy, Visceral Manipulation, Maderotherapy, and Mind-Body Healing. He will also lead complimentary workshops, including The Art of Breathing and Dynamic Meditation, focusing on breathwork and movement to promote calm and clarity.
From Kerala, India, Vinod Narayanan offers over a decade of experience in Ayurveda, yoga, and holistic healing across Europe, Africa, and Asia, including service as a personal physician to dignitaries. At Anantara Kihavah he will provide therapies such as Himalayan Sound Healing Massage, De-Armouring Body Therapy, Abdominal Detox, Access Bars Energy Healing, and Gut-Brain Rewiring. Using vibration, touch, and energy alignment, his sessions aim to release emotional blockages, improve circulation, and support the body’s natural rhythm. Complimentary consultations are available, alongside sound-based journeys that seek to harmonise body and spirit.
Together, the practitioners complement Anantara Kihavah’s wellbeing philosophy, extending from Ayurvedic traditions to sound therapy. Guests are invited to the overwater Anantara Spa for bespoke treatments, meditative workshops, and one-to-one consultations that encourage connection with self and nature.

Amilla Maldives welcomes guests to experience the expertise of three Visiting Practitioners, each offering personalised sessions to restore balance, nurture presence, and support holistic wellbeing amid the island’s tranquil surroundings.
Until 7 December 2025, Kattia Mendoza, creator of Unmasking Arts™ and KI·OM® Bodywork, offers somatic movement, breath coaching, Osteo-Thai bodywork, and conscious communication. Private sessions like KI·OM® Bodywork, Nervous System Release, and Osteo-Thai Massage help release tension and restore mobility, while group and complimentary classes, including Somatic Breath Meditation and the Unmasking Arts™ Circle, foster emotional clarity and mindful connection.
From 10 December 2025 to 20 January 2026, Jang Kanlayanee brings over 25 years of expertise in Thai, Ayurvedic, and Western wellness practices. Treatments such as Chi Nei Tsang, Body Alignment Massage, Face and Neck Therapy, Reiki, and sound healing restore energy and harmony. Guests can also join group or complimentary sessions including Tai Chi, Sound Bath, Chakra Energy Assessment, and private yoga for holistic wellbeing.
From 20 December 2025 to 20 January 2026, Dr Shreejit Ghadigaonkar, an Ayurveda doctor and yoga expert from India, offers personalised consultations and a range of traditional therapies to restore balance and vitality. Complementary wellness sessions provide guidance on managing stress, improving sleep, and aligning lifestyle habits with the body’s natural rhythms, leaving guests feeling refreshed and renewed.
During their residencies, Kattia, Jang, and Dr Shreejit invite guests to slow down, reconnect, and explore restorative experiences that leave body, mind, and spirit refreshed within the calm rhythm of island life.

The resort will welcome Jackson Withrow, a celebrated American professional tennis player and winner of 10 ATP doubles titles, and Dawn Sim, a renowned Singapore-based yoga instructor and wellness ambassador, for a series of exclusive guest experiences designed to inspire connection, vitality, and inner balance.
Set amidst the shimmering turquoise waters and lush tropical surroundings of the resort, these curated programs offer guests the extraordinary opportunity to engage with world-class professionals through immersive sessions that blend movement, mindfulness, and Maldivian serenity. From the thrill of perfecting a serve alongside an elite athlete to the calm of a sunrise yoga flow by the ocean’s edge, each experience reflects Sheraton Maldives’ dedication to fostering connection and wellbeing in a truly idyllic setting.
From November 15-16, the spotlight turns to the tennis court, where Jackson Withrow, who achieved a career-high doubles ranking of World No. 16 in 2024, will host a two-day Tennis Experience that brings professional sports to paradise. On November 15, guests can join Jackson for an interactive Doubles Clinic, learning advanced techniques, teamwork strategies, and court fundamentals. The session will conclude with a relaxed autograph signing and Q&A, offering a glimpse into life on the ATP Tour.
The excitement continues on November 16, as Jackson returns to the court for a Tennis Engagement Activation, where guests can watch his personal training session before joining him for friendly on-court challenges, including the opportunity to return his serve or rally alongside a world-class athlete.
Following a weekend of exhilarating sports, guests can look forward to a more tranquil rhythm as the resort shifts its focus toward mindfulness and rejuvenation. Beginning November 18, Dawn Sim will guide guests on a journey of serenity and self-awareness. A certified yoga instructor who has led sessions at Glow Fest 2024 and The Singapore Edition, Dawn brings her holistic approach to wellness to the tranquil shores of Sheraton Maldives.
Her wellness activations will take place in two of the resort’s most picturesque settings — Sunrise Yoga at Kakuni Beach on November 18 and Sunset Gentle Stretch at Anchorage Beach on November 19. Each session will offer guests a soothing, restorative experience that harmonises body and mind, surrounded by the gentle sounds of the ocean and the radiant hues of sunrise and sunset.
