Keep Your Gut Buddies Happy
Maldives.net.mv – Preparing wonderful culinary experiences for guests is a privilege for hosts at Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas. They love what they do because it is creative and rewarding. And with the ultimate indulgence for mind and body at the forefront, Six Senses is introducing delicious and nutritious smoothies and juices that incorporate important nutrients to keep the trillions of cells that make up the microbiome (pathogenic microorganisms that enjoy a mutualistic relationship with the human body) in balance.
Cutting edge research from Dr. Steven Gundry’s institutes, The Center for Restorative Medicine and The International Heart and Lung Institute, both in California, has shown that feeding the body’s microbiome nutrient dense fibers and resistant starches dramatically improves overall health. Moreover, healthy gut bacteria (Dr. Gundry calls them gut buddies) has been shown to improve mood and attitude.
Dr. Gundry serves on the Six Senses Wellness Board and has been collaborating with Six Senses in reviewing all menus and enhancing them so guests can enjoy the same great taste, but prepared in an even healthier fashion. The project is called Eat with Six Senses. Chefs are creating low-sugar and low-sodium items, gluten-, soy- and hormone-free options, identifying 90 to 100 percent of menu items as organic and keeping a close eye on lectins. The first project Dr. Gundry worked on, in tandem with Nutrition Consultant Patrick Wahlberg and Sophie Bohnstedt of Sophie’s Raw in Stockholm, is the smoothie and juice menu.

Six Senses is committed to serving refreshing, tasty juices and smoothies that feed gut buddies life-giving nutrients. And as a result, the new menu includes drinks that include a variety of vegetables, herbs, spices and fruit that contain lower amounts of fructose. In addition, the drinks provide a nutritionally rich boost of concentrated micronutrients … it’s like a supplement in a glass.
Guests who select to join one of the Six Senses Integrated Wellness programs: Cleanse & Detox; Sleep & Resilience; Trim & Fit and 100% Full Potential, are guided to which juices and smoothies are best suited to their wellness regime. For those not on a program, they will find the selections equally tempting and nutritious.
For those on the Cleanse & Detox program, the Green Senses juice is packed with ingredients to promote and support detoxification such as kale and broccoli. They also include fennel and parsley which are filled with antioxidants; cilantro which binds heavy metals; ginger which offers anti-inflammatory properties and pineapple which is rich in vitamin C as well as the enzyme bromelain.
Smoothie guests should try the Coco Nap to assist with sleep. It’s velvety and refreshing and contains young coconut, papaya, lemon balm and lime. The Trim & Fit smoothies, such as The Hulk, aid post workout recovery and muscle growth. The creaminess of macadamia nuts together with spinach and the richness of exotic spices make this a delicious green smoothie with a hint of Brazil nuts. This smoothie also works very well with protein powder.
Eat with Six Senses, a group-wide menu revamp that features low-sugar and low-sodium items, gluten-, soy- and hormone-free dining options, launches in 2017 at all resorts and spas. In addition to serving seasonal and sustainable food items, 90 to 100 percent of menu items will be organic. Efforts also include the reduction of lectins found in grains, beans and nightshades which cause chronic inflammation, digestive problems and degenerative conditions in some people.

Mandara Spa champions presence and balance in modern wellness journey
Over the past decade, wellness in the Maldives has evolved from an occasional travel indulgence into an essential part of the guest experience. Today’s travellers are seeking more than relaxation alone. They are looking for experiences that support physical wellbeing, emotional balance, mindfulness, and meaningful human connection.
The first half of 2026 has once again highlighted the strength and continued evolution of the wellness sector. New concepts, technologies, treatments, and wellbeing trends continue to reshape guest expectations, creating exciting opportunities for both guests and operators. Yet amid this progress, there is also a growing recognition that true wellbeing cannot be measured by novelty alone.
Increasingly, travellers are seeking experiences that feel authentic, intentional, and genuinely restorative. For Mandara Spa, this shift is both encouraging and deeply familiar. For 30 years, the brand has operated across some of the world’s most celebrated hospitality destinations, from the Maldives to leading hotels and resorts throughout Asia and beyond, witnessing wellness evolve from a niche hospitality offering into a global movement. Yet despite the industry’s transformation, the essence of wellness remains remarkably timeless: presence, balance, and meaningful human care.

Honouring Ritual in a Fast-Moving World
For three decades, Mandara Spa has drawn upon the enduring wisdom of Balinese wellness traditions, bringing their principles of presence, balance, and mindful care to guests around the world.
Long before wellness became a global conversation, Balinese culture recognised the importance of ritual, gratitude, balance, and living in harmony with oneself and the surrounding world. These values continue to guide every Mandara Spa experience today. From the welcoming foot cleansing ritual to thoughtfully curated treatment journeys inspired by generations of healing wisdom, each touchpoint is designed to encourage guests to slow down, become fully present, and reconnect with themselves.

“At the heart of Mandara Spa is a philosophy that wellness is not something to rush. It is something to be savoured, respected, and experienced with full awareness. Balinese heritage teaches us the importance of gratitude, of honouring each step in a ritual, and of finding peace in stillness,” said Tenille Keats, Country Manager of Mandara Spa.
As the industry continues to evolve, Mandara Spa remains committed to preserving these traditions while thoughtfully adapting to the needs of modern travellers. While wellness trends may change, the desire for genuine care, meaningful human connection, and authentic experiences remains constant.
This philosophy was also reflected during Global Wellness Day 2026, when Mandara Spa teams across multiple destinations joined guests, partners, and local communities in celebrating the universal importance of wellbeing. The occasion served as a powerful reminder that wellness often begins with a quiet moment, a mindful breath, a sense of gratitude, or simply the permission to pause.

Looking Ahead with Purpose
Rooted in Mandara Spa’s signature wellness philosophy, the brand remains committed to delivering authentic and restorative experiences inspired by Balinese wellness traditions. Through personalised treatments, attentive hospitality, and thoughtfully curated wellness offerings, Mandara Spa continues to create meaningful journeys that evolve alongside the changing needs and lifestyles of today’s guests.
As Mandara Spa looks toward the second half of 2026, it does so with a renewed sense of gratitude and purpose. This year also marks a significant milestone as the brand celebrates its 30th anniversary, honouring three decades of bringing Balinese-inspired wellness experiences to guests across the Maldives, Asia, and destinations around the world.

This milestone provides an opportunity to reflect on the people and partnerships that have shaped the journey over the past three decades. Mandara Spa extends its heartfelt appreciation to its therapists, spa teams, hotel partners, and loyal guests, whose trust and support continue to inspire the brand’s evolution.
As the wellness industry continues to evolve, Mandara Spa remains optimistic about the future. Guided by the timeless wisdom of Balinese traditions, the brand remains committed to creating spaces where guests can pause, reconnect, and restore. Because sometimes the most meaningful moments are found not in doing more, but in simply being present.

Global Wellness Day at Joy Island features giant floating breakfast experience
Joy Island Maldives transformed Global Wellness Day into an unforgettable celebration of well-being, connection, and island living, bringing together wellness experiences, healthy cuisine, and joyful moments in a day designed to nourish the mind, body, and soul.
The celebrations began as the first rays of sunlight painted the Maldivian skies in shades of gold and pink. Guests were welcomed aboard a traditional Maldivian dhoni, gently anchored in the crystal-clear waters surrounding the island, for a serene Sunrise Gentle Hatha Flow Yoga Session. Surrounded by endless ocean views and the soothing rhythm of the sea, participants moved through a mindful practice focused on breath, balance, and connection with the natural elements. The gentle morning breeze, the warmth of the rising sun, and the calming sounds of the ocean created an atmosphere of complete tranquility, allowing guests to reconnect with themselves and the beauty of the world around them.
Following the yoga session, guests returned to the island for the highlight of the day: a spectacular wellness-inspired breakfast experience unlike anything ever seen before.
Taking centre stage at the resort’s Main Pool was a breathtaking 24-foot floating breakfast, believed to be the largest floating breakfast tray ever created in the world. Designed and curated by Joy Island Maldives’ Executive Chef and culinary team, the extraordinary floating display featured an abundant selection of wholesome breakfast favourites, freshly baked pastries, tropical fruits, nutrient-rich dishes, healthy refreshments, and a dedicated herbal tea station.
Beautifully arranged and adorned with the iconic Joy Island Maldives logo, the floating breakfast was more than a culinary experience, it was a celebration of wellness, creativity, and the joy of sharing meaningful moments together. Guests gathered around the impressive floating installation, enjoying nutritious cuisine while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of the island.
The day continued with a lively Healthy Mocktail Making Competition, where members of the resort team showcased their creativity, passion, and talent through a collection of refreshing wellness-inspired beverages. Featuring fresh tropical ingredients, herbs, fruits, and innovative flavour combinations, the competition brought guests and team members together in a fun and interactive experience while highlighting the skill and personality of the Joy Island family.
“Global Wellness Day is about taking a moment to appreciate the importance of living well and embracing a healthier lifestyle,” said Ahmed Jihad (Jay), Chief Operating Officer of The Cocoon Collection. “At Joy Island Maldives, we wanted to create experiences that celebrate wellness in a joyful and memorable way. From greeting the sunrise through a peaceful Hatha Flow Yoga session on a traditional dhoni, to unveiling what we believe to be the world’s largest floating breakfast, and celebrating the creativity of our team through healthy mocktail creations, the day perfectly reflected the spirit of Joy.”
The Global Wellness Day celebrations formed part of Joy Island Maldives’ ongoing commitment to creating meaningful experiences that inspire guests to slow down, reconnect with nature, embrace wellness, and discover the simple joys of island life.
Surrounded by turquoise lagoons, pristine beaches, and endless shades of blue, Joy Island Maldives continues to redefine the art of hospitality through innovative experiences that bring people closer to themselves, to nature, and to one another.

Wellness, connection and joy unite nine ELE|NA sanctuaries on Global Wellness Day
Nine sanctuaries. One powerful reminder that wellness belongs to everyone. ELE|NA came together for Global Wellness Day 2026, a day that saw nine sanctuaries across the Maldives unite under a shared vision of wellbeing, connection, and joy and welcomed cancer survivors as honoured guests to one of its sanctuaries for wellness activities, in partnership with the Cancer Society of Maldives, in recognition of Cancer Survivors Month.
#JoyMagenta: Global Wellness Day Theme
The theme for Global Wellness Day 2026, Joy Magenta, is a call to embrace wellness not as a duty but as a source of genuine joy. Vibrant, energising, and full of life, magenta reflects the spirit of a global community coming together to celebrate wellbeing in all its forms.
Global Wellness Day is an internationally recognised, non-profit social movement held annually on the second Saturday of June. The day has grown into one of the world’s largest wellness celebrations, observed across more than 130 countries and thousands of venues. Its guiding philosophy “One day can change your whole life” is an invitation for people everywhere to step back from the demands of daily life and ask themselves a simple, powerful question: How can I live better? Global Wellness Day champions seven foundational pillars of healthy living: drinking more water, walking, eating well, doing good, being in nature, giving up harmful habits, and spending quality time with loved ones. In an era of increasing stress, digital overload, and disconnection from self, days like this serve as vital reminders that true wellness is not a luxury, it is a necessity.

A Day of wellness Lived Across Nine Sanctuaries
From the moment the sun rose, ELE|NA’s sanctuaries came alive with movement, intention, and community. Guests and colleagues stepped onto yoga mats at sunrise, walked barefoot through resort gardens, and gathered at pool decks and spa beaches to begin the day with breath and presence. The energy was unhurried, purposeful, and above all, shared.
As the day unfolded, Aqua Zumba sessions brought laughter and vitality to the water. Workshops invited guests to slow down and create, blending natural ingredients, learning the art of healing, and discovering the quiet power of a tea ceremony. Families came together too, with children and parents side by side, making art and finding stillness in their own way.

By afternoon, the mood turned inward. Guided meditations, sound healing sessions, and mindful movement offered a counterpoint to the energy of the morning, a chance to absorb, reflect, and restore. Healthy food corners and detox stations wove nourishment seamlessly through the day, a quiet nod to the idea that wellness lives as much in what we eat as in what we do.
As the sun dipped toward the horizon, Sunset Yoga drew guests to the beach and poolside once more, a fitting close to a day that had moved, in every sense, from light to light. And as evening fell, colleagues gathered for their own dedicated sessions of sound healing and meditation, a reminder that the spirit of Global Wellness Day extends to every member of the ELE|NA and it’s extended community.

Honoring Cancer Survivors
In one of the most meaningful moments of the day, ELE|NA partnered with the Cancer Society of Maldives for Cancer Survivors Month, inviting cancer survivors to join one of its sanctuaries for wellness activities planned for the day. It was a gesture rooted in the deepest spirit of Global Wellness Day, that healing is not linear, movement is medicine, and that community is one of the most powerful forces in any wellness journey. To share these moments with survivors was a privilege, and a reminder of why spaces like ELE|NA exist: not just to pamper, but to restore, uplift, and embrace every person who walks through the door.
