Dr. Gopal Govindasamy is a visiting ayurvedic and naturopathic doctor, who believes that your face and hair is a mirror of your health. It is a map of your internal organs and how they are doing health-wise. For example, the nose represents our heart and cheeks correlate to ours lungs. The lines running down from our nose to our lips represent the colon, while our chin represents the reproductive system. Every line and spot, scar, wrinkle and blemish means something. This style of diagnosis has been used for thousands of years in the ayurvedic and Chinese traditions and Dr. Gopal uses it to recommend the most suitable treatments during your stay. His specialties include Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion, Indian head massage and naturopathy which will be available from January 1 to 20, April 20 to May 31, and October 1 to 31, 2016.
There is no doubt that stress is a part of our lives and if not managed correctly, it can have adverse effects on our health. Visiting Practitioner Toby Maguire specializes in stress management and assists guests in finding ways to manage and release it. He draws from nearly 20 years of practicing eastern medicine to enable healing of the body and mind, addressing physical pain and psychological blockages. Toby’s expertise includes acupuncture, Chinese abdominal massage, pain relief massage, reiki, hypnotherapy, qi gong and meditation which will be available from January 20 to March 15, 2016.
Khun Noom has practiced different modalities of healing for over a decade. She is a yoga instructor and meditation leader, an artist in cupping techniques and a specialist in foot reflexology, Thai massage and manual lymphatic drainage. She utilizes the healing qualities of crystals and singing bowls to help guests heal various ailments of the body, mind and spirit, and to bring them into a deep state of awareness and balance. Khun Noom will be offering crystal sound healing, chakra balancing and foot reflexology with crystals from March 15 to April 30, 2016.
Claude Simard has used a psycho-energetic approach to help guests rediscover their inner child for over 20 years. The inner child is widely recognized in psychology as a sensitive and spontaneous part of ourselves, which is usually under the control of the waking conscious mind. During his psycho-energetic massage treatment, Claude guides guests to reconnect with a deep part of themselves and thus reclaim their ability to develop more trust in their own feelings. This can help in all areas of life, from business decisions to creating a fulfilling love relationship with one’s partner. In addition, Claude specializes in deep tissue fusion massage, and shiatsu and acupressure massage. Claude’s partner Jill Banwell discovered healing arts more than 13 years ago and her journey has taken her into the fields of therapeutic tarot reading, reiki, color and crystal healing, yoga, massage and meditation. She has worked all over the world, taking pleasure in gently guiding her clients to experience a deeper, more harmonious life. Claude and Jill will be at the resort from July 1 to August 31, 2016.

Signature gatherings will mark the Full Moon and New Moon phases, while creative art sessions led by local Maldivian artists offer space for introspection and expression through art and storytelling. In collaboration with Maison Caulières and Omorovicza, guests are also invited to indulge in Solasta Spa treatments rooted in French sensoriality and Hungarian mineral-rich traditions — a refined union of nature and nurture. “At The Nautilus, we believe that true wellness begins with freedom — the freedom to pause, to feel, and to follow one’s own rhythm. InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort hosts five-day yoga retreat for International Yoga Day

This summer presents an ideal opportunity for individuals to realign mind and body amid the serene beauty of the Maldives. In honour of International Yoga Day on June 21, InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort is hosting a five-day immersive yoga retreat from June 20 to 24. The retreat will be led by renowned Dubai-based instructor Emilia Métaireau and promises a transformative escape from daily life. Carefully scheduled for a mid-summer reset, the retreat invites wellness enthusiasts to step away from routine and reconnect with their inner selves through mindful movement, breathwork, and meditation, all set against the stunning backdrop of one of the world’s most idyllic island destinations.
As a signature event celebrating International Yoga Day, the retreat emphasises holistic healing by blending ancient yogic traditions with modern wellness techniques to offer a deeply resonant experience. Participants will begin each day with energising sunrise sessions and wind down with restorative evening practices that ground the body and calm the mind. Guided meditations and energy healing sessions are also included to foster self-awareness and spiritual connection.
Leading the retreat is Emilia Métaireau, a passionate advocate for mindful movement and self-care. With more than a decade of practice, international certification from London, and over 2,500 hours of teaching experience across global retreats and classes, Métaireau brings a grounded, expansive energy to her sessions. Her approach combines conscious movement, breathwork, and timeless yogic wisdom to guide participants toward greater inner clarity and embodiment.
At the core of the retreat is the ancient yogic philosophy of the five koshas—interconnected layers of the self that encompass physical, energetic, mental, intellectual, and blissful aspects. These koshas—Annamaya (physical body), Pranamaya (energy body), Manomaya (mental body), Vijnanamaya (intellectual body), and Anandamaya (bliss body)—serve as a roadmap for self-discovery and spiritual growth. Through carefully curated practices in yoga, meditation, and mindful movement, attendees will be guided through an experiential journey to peel back these layers and return to a state of balance, joy, and inner freedom.
The retreat will be anchored by AVI Spa, the resort’s luxury wellness sanctuary set over water. Meaning ‘sunshine’ in the local language, AVI Spa offers signature treatments and therapies that align with the transformative ethos of the retreat, providing guests with the peace and serenity essential to deep healing and restoration. The program is designed to support every layer of the being, offering a holistic experience aimed at restoring balance, enhancing vitality, and reconnecting with the authentic self.
Located on the tranquil southern tip of Raa Atoll, adjacent to a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve and a juvenile manta ray aggregation site, the resort provides a pristine setting for a deeply nourishing retreat. As the Maldives’ first and only all-Club InterContinental resort, guests enjoy exclusive complimentary privileges alongside premium five-star amenities. These include overwater villas, an adults-only area complete with pool and restaurant, and a tranquil spa ideal for guided meditation and yoga. With six dining venues and a total of 81 villas and residences, participants have the freedom to select their ideal retreat accommodation while enjoying a diverse array of gourmet experiences.
