The Residence by Cenizaro joins Global Hotel Alliance

The Residence by Cenizaro, which runs the The Residence Maldives by Cenizaro resort in the Maldives, has joined the Global Hotel Alliance’s (GHA) portfolio of distinct brands, adding a collection of luxury resorts to GHA’s network of more than 35 independent brands and over 500 hotels.

Owned and managed by Singapore-based Cenizaro Hotels and Resorts, The Residence by Cenizaro presents a portfolio of independent properties in some of the world’s most desirable locations, including Tunis, Mauritius, Zanzibar and the Maldives. Each property in the family reflects a distinctive, individual personality and sense of place, and they all embody the legendary hallmarks of excellence the world has come to know: attention to detail and intuitive, personal and discreet customer service.

“We are delighted to be part of a worldwide alliance, which will enable us to reach a global audience of luxury travellers through DISCOVERY’s 11 million members. We are looking forward to welcoming DISCOVERY customers to our amazing properties,” Gary Xie, the Executive Director at Cenizaro Hotels and Resorts, was quoted in a statement, a saying.

The resorts of The Residence by Cenizaro will also become part of Ultratravel Collection, the most luxurious and iconic hotels in GHA’s DISCOVERY loyalty programme.

“We really do have a rich collection of brands to rival any that the global majors have to offer, and The Residence by Cenizaro adds to the wealth of choice that we offer our DISCOVERY members,” Chris Hartley, GHA’s CEO, said.

The Residence by Cenizaro is due to open its first south-east Asian property in Bintan, Indonesia in early 2018.

In the Maldives, the Singaporean hotel chain runs The Residence Maldives by Cenizaro.

Awarded the Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor consecutively since its opening in 2012, The Residence Maldives lies on the unspoilt southern island of Falhumaafushi in the Gaafu Alifu atoll.

The intimate retreat located just 20 kilometres north of the equator offers 94 beach-front and overwater villas. Designed to complement its surroundings and provide a sense of place, the villas have been created using natural materials and are decorated with local artefacts.

The Spa by Clarins is the only one of its kind in the Maldives, and offers a range of treatments created exclusively for the hotel and a place to escape – it sits out on a jetty in the lagoon. Other facilities include water sports, a fitness centre, kids club and excursions to nearby islands.

The diving surrounding the resort is exceptional, and its PADI five star certified dive centre offers all level of snorkelers and scuba divers the opportunity to discover the unspoilt coral reefs and rich marine life of the southern Maldivian atoll.

Maldives celebrates arrival of 2024’s 1 millionth tourist

Maldives on Thursday welcomed the one millionth tourist to visit this year.

The one millionth tourist is a Thai named Sutapa Amonwivat, who arrived from Singapore with her husband and two children. This is her second visit to Maldives.

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and the Ministry of Tourism gave a warm welcome to Sutapa at the Velana International Airport (VIA) Thursday afternoon. She was welcomed at the VIA by tourism minister Ibrahim Faisal, MMPRC Managing Director Ibrahim Shiury and senior officials of various relevant agencies.

After welcoming her with traditional offerings, she was presented with various gifts by the ministry, MMPRC, customs, immigration, Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) and Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA).

Maldives reached one million tourists in June, three weeks earlier than last year. The number of tourists reached one million on July 16, 2023.

Maldives expects to reach 2 million tourists this year.

New air route connects Chongqing to Maldives

Chongqing Airlines on Monday began its inaugural flights to Maldives.

The Chongqing-Male route, scheduled three times a week, is expected to strengthen the bonds between China and the Maldives, opening up exciting new opportunities for tourism and cultural exchange.

The inaugural flight was welcomed upon its arrival at Velana International Airport (VIA) in Maldives, where local officials and tourism representatives expressed their enthusiasm for this new development.

“We warmly welcome our friends from China to our beautiful islands. This new connection strengthens our bonds and opens up new opportunities for tourism,” the tourism ministry said on X.

Maldives currently welcomes four airlines from China, including China Eastern, Beijing Capital Airlines, Xiamen Airlines.

In January, Maldives government urged tourism stakeholders in both Maldives and China to ramp up efforts to restore China’s position as the primary source market for Maldives tourism, a status held before the onset of Covid-19.

China, being the largest source market for Maldives tourism before the pandemic, saw a resumption of tourist arrivals from January 2023 after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. In 2023, the Maldives welcomed 187,118 Chinese tourists, marking a significant recovery in numbers. This year, the Maldives has welcomed the most number of tourists from China, with over 107,940 or 11.5 percent of total arrivals by June 12.
