First group of Maldives chefs completes Worldchefs Judging Seminar

Three chefs from the Maldives have for the first time completed a Judging Seminar of the World Association of Chefs Societies (Worldchefs).

Chefs representing the Worldchefs-affiliated Chefs Guild of Maldives (CGM) — Ishaaq, Abdulla ‘Soba’ Sabah and Aminath Shaanee — attended the Judging Seminar held in Thai capital Bangkok on Tuesday.

Developed by Worldchefs’ Culinary Competition Committee, Judging Seminar programmes are held in all continents on a regular basis. Attending and completing a seminar is mandatory for chefs wishing to become an approved judge of Worldchefs.

Everyone — aspiring judges, competitors, trainers, event organisers etc. — can participate in a judging seminar in order to gain skills and insights into international culinary competition standards. Being a Worldchefs approved judge will give the opportunity to attend prestigious culinary events worldwide while developing individual culinary skills and that of others.

Ishaaq is the Executive Chef at Anantara Kihavah Villas Maldives, while Sabah hails from Soneva having a restaurant run by Soneva Fushi named after him. Shaanee is a leading trainer at the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies of The Maldives National University, the premier hospitality and tourism institute in the country.

Several Maldivian chefs have won international accolades with the latest being silver at HOFEX 2017, Asia’s leading food and hospitality trade show, and gold at a major culinary competition in China.
