Jumeirah Vittaveli has sponsored the Maldives Independence Day celebrations in Germany, offering a five nights stay as a grand raffle prize.
The Maldives embassy in Germany held a grand function on July 28 to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of the Maldives gaining independence from the British on July 26, 1965. The Maldivian community in Germany attended the event, where Maldivian cuisine (Gulha, Bajjiya, traditional breadfruit and Taro chips, coconut delicacies and grilled fish) were served along with traditional music.
In her speech, the Maldives ambassador to Germany Jameela Ali noted the importance of having a diplomatic presence in Germany, as the country is the number one market in Europe for tourist arrivals to the Maldives. She informed that out of the 1.4 million tourists that visited the Maldives last year, more than 100,000 were from Germany.
Jameela acknowledged the plentiful work done together by the industry partners and the government in order to score the top destination status for the Maldives.
“As we present the ‘The Sunny Side of Life’ to the world, allow me to congratulate all those who have made this happen and let us pray that Maldives always remains as a Paradise on Earth,” she said.
“We welcome the German population and the rest of the world to enjoy once in their lifetime the beauty and the exquisiteness that God has blessed the Maldives.”
At the event, Director General of the Asia and the Pacific of the Federal Foreign Office Ina Lepel also acknowledged the importance of tourism in the Maldives, and appreciated the work done by the tourism sector to uphold the title. She urged the Maldivian government to ensure that it will always remain a safe and beautiful place for everyone to visit.
