Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa switches to biodegradable coffee capsules
Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa continuously strives to reduce its impact on the environment and consciously discover alternative eco-friendly measures to put into practice. Many changes have been implemented through the years, including the use of paper straws and glass bottles in lieu of plastic, an in-villa tablet as a room compendium instead of the traditional printed folder and now the utilization of 100% biodegradable coffee capsules.
Coffee appreciation has been on the rise, especially since the introduction of coffee capsules to meet the needs of the modern day consumer. Millions of aluminium coffee capsules are disposed of in landfills every day. These capsules take 150 to 500 years to break down and it is heavily impacting the environment.
Standing by its environmental and social sustainability policy, the resort collaborated with Ethical Coffee Company (ECC) to replace the use of aluminium packaged coffee capsules. ECC capsules are made from 100% bio-sourced plant-based fibres and degrade within six months, while the choices of coffee selected are also bio-sourced and meet Fair Trade standards. All villa coffee machines were replaced with customised versions fabricated by ECC. This was to ensure that the right machines were used to maintain extraction techniques, releasing the unique flavors of authentic Italian-style espresso. Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa is proud to be the first resort in Maldives to lead the way in offering guests eco-friendly coffee.
“Recycling aluminium coffee capsules would actually create a larger carbon footprint as recycling plants are located outside of the Maldives. So the decision to start using 100% biodegradable coffee capsules was relatively easy as environmental stewardship has always played an important role for the resort. We acknowledge that our presence in this atoll affects the fragile ecosystem and we are committed to reducing our impact, both environmentally and culturally,” commented resort General Manager Mariano Silvestri.
Ethical Coffee Company (ECC) is a Swiss company, founded in April 2008 by its Chairman, Jean-Paul Gaillard. By introducing a new generation of fully biodegradable capsules, ECC offers a sustainable and economical alternative to current consumer practices but also enables consumers to continue enjoying an authentic cup of Italian espresso in the comfort of their home.

Amilla Maldives launches Eid programme with culture, wellness and dining
Amilla Maldives has announced its Eid al-Adha programme for 27 to 30 May 2026, offering guests a series of activities centred on culture, family experiences, wellness and dining.
The programme will begin with a Bodu Mas Parade, followed by sunset cocktails by the shore and an Eid dinner held outdoors. The evening will continue at Baa Bar with shisha and live music.
During the celebration period, guests will be able to take part in a range of activities including island crafts, henna sessions, beach games, sandcastle building and family movie nights. Hands-on experiences such as tie-dye, sushi-making and bracelet crafting will also form part of the programme.
Wellness activities will remain a key part of the Eid offering, with sound healing sessions, yoga and spa treatments available at Javvu Spa. Visiting practitioner Dr Shagnika Pradhan will also offer sessions combining natural therapies and yoga.
The culinary programme will include Maldivian High Tea and a local island visit, while Maldivian Night at Emperor Beach Club will feature traditional cuisine, live music and cultural performances.
In the evenings, guests will also have access to sunset cocktails, live saxophone sessions and a wine tasting experience at The Cellar Door.
Through the four-day programme, Amilla Maldives is presenting Eid al-Adha as a period of relaxation and shared experiences, with a focus on cultural activities, leisure and wellbeing.

ELE|NA marks World Asthma Day with guided wellness experiences
ELE|NA marked World Asthma Day with a series of wellness activities across its properties, focusing on the role of breath in overall wellbeing.
The programme was designed to highlight the connection between breathing, movement and daily health practices. According to the company, the initiative aimed to position respiratory health as an integral part of routine wellness rather than a purely clinical concern.
Activities began with guided breath awareness sessions combined with stretching exercises. These sessions focused on controlled movement and breathing techniques intended to improve mobility and support more regulated breathing patterns. The approach was structured to help participants reduce tension and restore a steady physical rhythm.
The programme also included Floating Sound Healing sessions, where participants were positioned on water while exposed to therapeutic sound frequencies. The sessions were designed to support relaxation and mental focus through controlled sensory input.
The overall programme combined breathwork, movement and sound-based therapy as part of a structured wellness approach. ELE|NA indicated that these practices were intended to support awareness, relaxation and physical balance.
The company operates across 12 properties, including OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI, OZEN LIFE MAADHOO, OBLU SELECT Sangeli, OBLU SELECT Lobigili, OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi, VARU by Atmosphere, OBLU NATURE Helengeli by SENTIDO and RAAYA by Atmosphere, as well as properties in India.
Through the initiative, ELE|NA presented its wellness framework as extending beyond spa treatments, incorporating routine practices centred on breathing, movement and relaxation.

As the only venue within the Fari Islands devoted entirely to contemporary Maldivian cuisine, KANDU introduces a “Dhivehi Modern Ocean-to-Table” philosophy, bridging island traditions with refined, modern techniques. Drawing from generations of island cooking, from the quiet wisdom of grandmother recipes to the distinct flavours of each atoll, the experience unfolds as a culinary journey across the archipelago.
KANDU offers a multicourse tasting menu designed as a narrative map of the Maldives, with each course reflecting the character and ingredients of a specific atoll. Traditional staples such as coconut, tuna, breadfruit, and native herbs are reimagined with precision and creativity, offering a refined expression of Maldivian flavour shaped by regional memory and contemporary technique.
Guided by the Indian Ocean as a living larder, KANDU emphasises a deep connection to place through ethical sourcing and sustainability. The restaurant partners directly with local fishermen for daily catches, supporting local communities while minimising environmental impact.
The beverage program highlights fresh, tropical, and largely non-alcoholic creations, presenting modern interpretations of traditional drinks such as Raa, Sai, and Kashikeyo-inspired cocktails, alongside inventive serves like a Bilimagu Whisky Sour. A curated selection of wines further enhances the dining experience.
Designed to reflect the natural textures and tones of the Maldives, KANDU features warm, earthy materials, open-air seating, and artwork spotlighting collaborations with local artists. The ambiance is complemented by a relaxed yet cosmopolitan soundtrack of downtempo and ambient music infused with subtle Maldivian influences.
“Maldivian cuisine has always been deeply personal to me. With KANDU, we wanted to honour the flavours many of us grew up with and reframe them through a more contemporary lens. This is a menu shaped by memory, by the ocean, and by the incredible produce of our islands.
