The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi, Maldives launches New Spa by Thalgo
Maldives.net.mv – The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi has launched 147 NEW experiences at The Spa by Thalgo in 2015. The Spa will offer experiences infused with the ancient healing principles of the East and West, in combination with 50 years of skincare knowledge from Thalgo, a pioneer in marine scientific research. By taking nourishment from the ocean in the form of algae, sea minerals and plant extracts, Thalgo products offer the peak of skincare excellence. Not just for accentuating femininity, the ‘Male Spa Menu’, ‘Sweet Pea Spa’ kids’ treatments and ‘The Spa Café’ which serves healthy and delicious cuisine, ensures a complete spa experience which the whole family can enjoy.
The Spa by Thalgo
The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi’s stunning surrounds allow guests to pace through rituals of relaxation, discovery, holistic renewal, and simply island-inspired indulgence, ideal accompaniments to the Thalgo products. As a whole, The Spa by Thalgo offers a comprehensive menu to ensure a truly holistic and personalised approach to wellbeing, with a specific focus on the ancient healing practices of Ayurveda, Chinese medicine and Maldivian healers, boosted by 50 years of pioneering marine science. A team of Beauty Therapists, with the aid of a resident Ayurvedic Doctor, Chinese Medicine Consultant and Yoga Instructor harmonise energies as they move guests through a journey of self-discovery and holistic renewal during their stay.
New Thalgo products
Each Thalgo skincare product is a genuine concentrate of marine effectiveness, harnessing the powerful richness of the ocean, which is known for its renewing effects. These products are key to the new collection of anti-ageing facials, integrative slimming treatments and sensory spa journeys at the property.
New Signature Spa Journeys by Thalgo
The new Indoceane Ritual speaks to blissful dreams of a far Eastern journey, where divine scents and colours combine with the riches of the sea. Be taken on a journey to the Mediterranean with a sea salt, cassonade sugar and essential oil scrub, onto Egypt for a truly indulgent milk bath, India for a Sacred Ayurvedic Massage, and China to relax with a silky smooth body wrap.
Another new addition is the Terre & Mer Ritual, which evokes an authentic Mediterranean getaway. Starting with an organic cleansing ritual, guests will be pampered with an aromatic face massage, breathing in the scents of sun-drenched lavender and bitter orange, followed by a relaxing lavender massage.
The Sea & Senses Ritual is another unique sensory journey, during which the mineral and marine worlds combine to induce deep relaxation. Guests will feel holistically pampered with hot volcanic stones during the volcanic/marine massage as well as facial, which draws on a combination of treatment techniques from different cultures such as American Indian, Tibetan and Japanese.
New Signature Experiences
For a truly indulgent experience, the new section of Signature Rituals features two extraordinarily luxurious treatments. The Chocolate Delight begins with an invigorating body scrub before taking a dip in a chocolate bath and sipping a delicious, creamy chocolate milkshake. Guests will continue this celebration of all things chocolate with a blissful soothing massage that uses luscious cocoa butter to enrich the skin.
Secondly, the Vinotherapy features an antioxidant rich, anti-ageing scrub and mask created from grape remains in a wine-making process, followed by a ‘Vinotherapy’ bath with flickering candles and massage with rose oil. Signature Rituals such as the Honeymoon Escape and Romance at Iru Fushi have also been revised.
New Traditional Treatments
The traditional Maldivian treatment Umbuliveyo Banun, as well as Ayurvedic treatments like Ayur Shakti (four hands massage) have also been introduced to create a diverse range of traditional spa treatments at the property.

Maldives wellness economy soars with GWI and JOALI BEING collaboration
The Global Wellness Institute (GWI), a leading non-profit research organisation for the global wellness industry, announced a strategic collaboration with JOALI BEING, marking the Maldives as the 11th country to feature on GWI’s Geography of Wellness platform. JOALI BEING, which opened in 2021, is a pioneering wellbeing resort designed around biophillic principles and focused on delivering transformative, holistic wellness experiences.
The Maldives, as an island economy, has emerged as a premier destination for luxury wellness tourism and spas. The country’s wellness economy comprises two major segments: wellness tourism, valued at $1 billion following an impressive annual growth rate of 35.4% from 2022 to 2023, and the spa sector, valued at $448 million, with an exceptional 63.7% growth rate over the same period.
Through this collaboration with JOALI BEING, GWI has made detailed data on the Maldives’ position within the $6.3 trillion global wellness economy accessible to stakeholders interested in investing in the country’s expanding wellness tourism and spa industries. GWI’s chair and CEO, Susie Ellis, emphasised that by sponsoring the Geography of Wellness report, JOALI BEING is playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of wellness tourism in the region. This collaboration aims to help the Maldives capitalise on the rising demand for wellness travel while maintaining competitiveness in the evolving wellness tourism sector.
Özgür Cengiz, global director of wellness development at Gürok Tourism Group, which operates JOALI BEING, expressed pride in the partnership with GWI. Cengiz highlighted the Maldives’ long-standing association with luxury and natural beauty and noted that the collaboration integrates data-driven wellness insights to enhance its global appeal. By aligning offerings with emerging trends such as nature connection, eco-wellness, and transformative travel, the initiative seeks to attract high-value travellers while promoting sustainability and community development.
The Maldives, spanning 1,192 islands across 26 atolls, is celebrated as a quintessential island paradise with jewel-like islands, white sands, turquoise waters, and luxury wellness resorts. Nature-centred wellness experiences, including encounters with vibrant coral reefs teeming with sea turtles, manta rays, and whale sharks, highlight one of the world’s richest marine ecosystems. The Maldivian way of life fosters a deep connection to nature, with a diet rich in tropical fruits, herbs, and fresh seafood contributing to holistic wellbeing. Environmental sustainability remains a key priority, with government-led initiatives aimed at protecting coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass beds to ensure harmonious coexistence with tourism.
The Maldives’ traditional healing practice, Dhivehi beys, combines indigenous plant-based remedies with global influences to restore balance within the body. Emphasising harmony among the body’s ‘humours’ of hot, cold, and dry, Dhivehi beys uses natural herbs for healing. The government has recognised its cultural significance and is actively integrating this ancient tradition into tourism, allowing visitors to experience it alongside the country’s natural beauty.
