MATATO opens registration for multi-city travel roadshow in Southeast Asia

Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has opened registration for a major upcoming multi-city travel trade roadshow in Southeast Asia.

In a statement, MATATO said it would be participating at the Outbound Travel Roadshow (OTR) Southeast Asia, which would take place from October 1-5 in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Singapore (optional).

MATATO invited interested parties to fill a co-exhibitor registration form and send it to its office along with the payment before 3pm on March 29.

Participation costs USD 4,000 for the three cities and an additional USD 1,700 for the optional city. The fee is for one representative from each company, and covers accommodation in five-star hotels, airport transfers and intercity flights, and participation in city-specific workshops. For a second delegate, USD 1,800 for the three cities and USD 700 for the optional city will be charged.

OTR is a trade-only event that connects buyers and suppliers of travel services and products, and provides a key forum to shape the future of the industry through networking and education. Held across the most prominent feeder cities, OTR attracts all the vanguards of travel trade industry. Attendees include key decision makers and budget holders with direct purchasing responsibility.

In addition to the Southeast Asia edition, similar OTR events are held in India and Middle East throughout the year.

Southeast Asia has become one of the fastest growing source markets for the Maldives tourism industry, with 82,162 arrivals — an increase of 21.4 percent — recorded in 2017.

That growth is expected to continue this year as well, as major contributors from Southeast Asia posted strong performances in January, with arrivals from countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines increasing by 15 percent, 223.6 percent and 24.3 percent respectively. Arrivals from Singapore, however, declined by 3.8 percent.

BBM expands retail presence with new Hulhumalé outlet

Bestbuy Maldives (BBM) opened a new wholesale store in Hulhumalé Phase 2 on Monday.

The outlet is located on the ground floor of Lot 20286, Nirolhu Magu, and is intended to improve access to BBM’s imported goods for residents of Hulhumalé Phase 2 and for businesses operating in the area.

According to the company, the opening forms part of its plan to expand services closer to customers in line with population growth in Hulhumalé.

With the opening of the new store, BBM’s full range of imported and distributed products will be available at the Hulhumalé Phase 2 location. These include consumer goods from international brands such as Lifebuoy, Vaseline and Unilever.

The store will also stock wholesale food products from brands including Daily, Cavin’s and Redman.

BBM has supplied goods to resorts, hotels and retail outlets across the Maldives for several years.

Ataraxis Grand & Spa recently hosted a week-long, closed corporate offsite in Fuvahmulah for a US-based artificial intelligence company, highlighting the island’s growing suitability for integrated work-and-experience retreats.
