Maldives kicks off marketing activities in Italy

A series of marketing activities has commenced in Italy, with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) hosting a destination stand at the TTG Travel Experience 2019 and a “Journey to the Sunny Side” roadshow.

During TTG Travel Experience 2019, held in Rimini, Italy from October 9-11, the Maldives was showcased at a 64sqm stand, designed to display the beauty of Maldives.

MMPRC, together with 25 tourism industry partners, showcased the destination at the fair. The Maldives industry professionals met with travel industry partners to discuss ways to further develop and strengthen the presence of the destination within the Italian market.

Apart from the business meetings, there were activities at the stand to attract more visitors.

Visitors could take a photo with an Instagram frame and post it with hashtag #VisitMaldives. The photo with the most comments won a raffle sponsored by Furaveri Maldives. Visitors were also treated to a taste of Maldivian flavours.

Meanwhile, MMPRC will host a “Journey to the Sunny Side” roadshow in two prominent cities of Italy.

The first event will take place in Rome on October 14, and the second event will be held in Milan on October 15.

“This roadshow would serve as a platform to reach and network with top travel trade industry partners from Italy,” a statement issued by MMPRC read.

“There are nine participants from the tourism industry of Maldives to further build the relationship with major Italian travel trade firms and media.”

Italy, whose visitors were the first tourists to arrive in the Maldives, has remained amongst the most important traditional markets.

It has maintained its position amongst the top three source markets, with a total of 92,162 arrivals being recorded till August. Tourist arrivals from Italy were recorded at 69,787 in the same period last year — a growth of 32.1 per cent this year.
