Furaveri Maldives hosts grand Indian wedding
Furaveri Maldives has hosted its first Indian wedding, with over 300 guests flying into the Maldives in May to attend the grand ceremony at Furaveri’s paradisiacal shores.
Furaveri’s natural setting and its beautiful, untouched landscape captured the imagination of a couple who had chosen the Maldives as the venue for their dream wedding. The couple had been on the lookout for the ideal Maldivian resort that could provide a seamless experience in hosting the the demanding ceremony.
The wedding saw over 300 guests flying into the Maldives from all over India and from various parts of the world, including the US and Europe.
The couple had booked the entire resort for the event, with the celebrations continuing for three days. The festivities featured Indian drummers, henna and make-up artists, and a celebrity DJ flown all the way from India.
“The negotiations to finalise the resort had been going on for almost two months and the family was totally blown away with the way the entire team was able to anticipate and cater to every need of the family during their visit in March and this created an emotional engagement with them,” Mohamed Hilmy, the General Manager at Furaveri, said.
Hilmy wanted the wedding to be a showpiece event in the Maldives. He is not new to hosting wedding ceremonies, having managed many wedding celebrations in the Maldives and around the world in his previous roles in the hospitality industry.
However, what made the Indian wedding at Furaveri unique to someone as experienced as Hilmy was the sheer size of the entourage that flew into attend the ceremony and the fact that it was a traditional Indian ceremonial wedding infused with Maldivian elegance.
This wedding had also put Furaveri on the Maldives’ tourism map as the resort of choice for destination weddings, which is very popular amongst Indian elites.
“We put in a lot of effort into planning the nitty-gritty along with looking after the family and the professionals from India and the Maldives. There was a lot of excitement amongst the team, as it was a great opportunity to showcase our property and the Maldives as a destination for such huge events,” Hilmy said.
“Our ultimate goal is to promote our resort and the destination, as well as showcase true Maldivian hospitality and heritage whilst our guests experience a memorable, unique and unforgettable vacation that will stay with them forever.”
Located in the exotic Raa atoll in the northern part of the Maldives, Furaveri is accessible by a 45-minute seaplane flight from the main Velana International Airport.
The 107 private villas have been specifically designed to meet guests’ individual preferences and are set amongst lush vegetation, in the first row on a sandy white beach or settled above a sparkling turquoise lagoon.
Located on the northern shore of the island, Jaafaeiy Restaurant serves exclusive cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner from around the world with various choices of international and continental dishes. The buffet includes live cooking stations where food is prepared to individual desires.
Furaveri Spa is a holistic sanctuary where guests will find themselves in a serene world of delicate scents with a comprehensive range of facilities in a beautiful wooden interior that echoes Furaveri. With four open air pavilions and four air conditioned pavilions for side-by-side couple treatments, separate steam bath, sauna, jacuzzi, relaxation area as well as manicure and pedicure, Furaveri Spa offers a wide range of soothing massages and refreshing body treatments to promote relaxation and renew energy.
Furaveri is blessed with an incredible house reef with turtles, sharks, rays, barracuda, napoleons, tuna and trevally as well as colourful corals. The resort’s PADI five-star certified dive centre offers a full range of PADI programmes, from Discover Suba Diving to PADI Divemaster along with daily dives and guided snorkelling trips.
Alila Kothaifaru Maldives will mark the festive season with a programme that combines charitable initiatives with its sustainability commitments. Guests will be invited to donate, run, paddle and plant in support of local community and environmental projects, alongside dining experiences that highlight Maldivian produce.
Under its World of Care commitments, the resort has adopted initiatives to improve the school experience for children at R. Maduvvari School on the neighbouring island and to protect the surrounding marine ecosystem. Participation in the season’s activities will contribute directly to these programmes.
From 25 December 2025 to 7 January 2026, guests may purchase wrapped gifts from a Christmas Charity Surprise Tree, with all proceeds directed to the resort’s charitable causes.
On 27 December 2025, Euro Divers will lead a coral-planting session within the house reef. The activity forms part of an ongoing conservation effort to strengthen reef resilience by increasing coral diversity through the careful planting of hardy coral fragments.
Seasalt restaurant will host a “Boat to Table” beachfront barbecue on 28 December 2025 and 4 January 2026. The buffet will feature seafood such as giant tuna sashimi, ceviche and grilled fish prepared from the day’s catch supplied by local fishermen, reflecting the resort’s focus on local sourcing and support for the Raa Atoll community.
A Charity Kayak Race will take place on 30 December 2025 and 5 January 2026. Entry will be by voluntary donation, with funds supporting enhancements at the R. Maduvvari pre-school.
On 2 January 2026, the programme will conclude with a Charity Island Fun Run around the island. Branded t-shirts will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the resort’s community initiatives.
