Over 300 local, intl tourism professionals gather as Travel Trade Maldives 2018 set to begin on Monday
More than 300 hoteliers, suppliers and industry professionals from local and international travel trade are gathering in the Maldives as the country’s first and largest international travel trade show kicks off on Monday with a summit dedicated to tackle the most pressing issues in the world-renowned holiday destination.
The second edition of Travel Trade Maldives (TTM) will take place from Monday to Saturday with multiple events held at different venues, including capital Male and neighbouring resorts. As the first event, the TTM Hotelier Summit 2018 will be hosted on Monday from 9am to 1pm at Bandos Maldives resort.
Economic minister Mohamed Saeed has confirmed as the chief guest of the kickoff event of TTM 2018. He will inaugurate the second Hotelier Summit, which targets hotel investors, leading hotel owners, operators, developers, architects, interior designers and consultants.

Founder and Director of Crown Company Ahmed Nazeer, who also serves as the Secretary General of Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), will give the keynote address, which will be followed by the platinum partner speech by Maldives Transport and Construction Company (MTCC) CEO Ibrahim Ziyath.
Other speakers include top officials from the tourism ministry, economic ministry, Privatisation and Corporatisation Board, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC).
Apart from the keynote speeches, four panel discussions are scheduled to take place at the summit.
Amongst the 150 tourism professionals confirmed to attend the summit are resort and hotel owners, general managers and resident managers as well as key international travel trade stakeholders and professionals. The summit will further witness the attendance of international delegates from Booking.com, Expedia, AirAsia, Axisrooms, TUI, Kuoni, TravHQ and LonelyPlanet.
Over 100 resorts and hotels from the Maldives have confirmed their participation at TTM 2018, while more than 250 international buyers and media representatives will attend the show. Premium Exhibitors include Adaaran Resorts, Angiri Resorts, Crown and Champa Resorts, Bandos Maldives, and Villa Hotels and Resorts.
The annual gala of TTM will take place on Wednesday evening at Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi resort.
As part of TTM 2018, the first ever Maldives Supplier Expo will be held from Friday to Saturday. More than 50 suppliers will have one-on-one prescheduled meetings with officials from procurement, accounts, finance, and F&B departments of more than 100 resorts.
TTM, which was launched last year by local PR firm Maldives Getaways, aims to facilitate the tourism industry of Maldives to reach the ultimate target of two million tourists per year with over USD 3.5 billion in receipts by the end of 2020.
Minister Saeed commented on the importance of TTM, saying that it connects Maldivian tourism industry stakeholders with a global network of travel agents and tour operators.
He further stressed the need for Maldivian tourism industry to come together and work as a cohesive unit with agents and operators in order to achieve the government’s ambitious target of attracting two million tourist arrivals per annum by 2020.

BBM expands retail presence with new Hulhumalé outlet
Bestbuy Maldives (BBM) opened a new wholesale store in Hulhumalé Phase 2 on Monday.
The outlet is located on the ground floor of Lot 20286, Nirolhu Magu, and is intended to improve access to BBM’s imported goods for residents of Hulhumalé Phase 2 and for businesses operating in the area.
According to the company, the opening forms part of its plan to expand services closer to customers in line with population growth in Hulhumalé.
With the opening of the new store, BBM’s full range of imported and distributed products will be available at the Hulhumalé Phase 2 location. These include consumer goods from international brands such as Lifebuoy, Vaseline and Unilever.
The store will also stock wholesale food products from brands including Daily, Cavin’s and Redman.
BBM has supplied goods to resorts, hotels and retail outlets across the Maldives for several years.
