Maldives looks to defend Indian Ocean Best Spa Destination title at World Spa Awards
Maldives is vying to defend the Indian Ocean Best Spa Destination title, as voting for the annual World Spa Awards opened Friday.
Until October 13, consumers and professionals working in the spa and wellness travel and tourism industry have the chance to cast their votes online for their favourite spa destinations, resorts, hotels and brands in the world as well as in different regions.
Maldives, which won the Indian Ocean Best Spa Destination award last year, is competing with Mauritius and Seychelles to defend the title.
From the world categories, Duniye Spa at Hurawalhi Maldives and Iridium Spa at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort have been nominated for the World’s Best New Resort Spa award, while Spa My Blend by Clarins at Velaa Private Island Maldives is contesting for the World’s Best Private Island Spa award. Iridium Spa at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort and The Spa by Thalgo at The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Maldives have also been nominated for the World’s Best Spa Design award. In addition, The Sun Siyam Signature Essence of Massages treatment offered by The Spa by Thalgo at The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Maldives is vying for the World’s Best Spa Signature Treatment award.

The winners will be announced at the grand gala ceremony to be held at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort and Spa in Vietnam on December 9.
Launched in 2015 by the World Travel Awards, which has established itself as the Oscars of the travel industry over two decades, as a sister programme to the World Ski Awards and World Golf Awards, World Spa Awards is focused on the rapidly evolving spa and wellness sector. Barcelo Nasandhura Malé to open in Q1 2025
Barcelo Nasandhura Malé, the Maldives’ newest luxury destination, is set to open its doors in Q1 2025.
Located on the site of the former Nasandhura Palace Hotel, the property will become the largest hotel in the capital, Malé. With 136 elegantly designed rooms, including 95 with stunning ocean views, and 116 luxurious serviced apartments, Barcelo Nasandhura Malé promises a unique blend of sophistication, comfort, and convenience in the heart of this vibrant city.
Operated by the renowned Spanish hotel chain Barcelo Group, the hotel represents a significant expansion of the brand’s presence in the Maldives and beyond. Barcelo Group, known for its exceptional resorts, recently opened Barcelo Whale Lagoon Maldives in South Ari Atoll in August 2024, further solidifying its growing portfolio in the region. BBM, Lifebuoy empowers hygiene practices among Maldivian children
BBM, in collaboration with Lifebuoy, marked Global Handwashing Day 2024 with engaging activities aimed at instilling the habit of proper hand hygiene among Maldivian school children. Held on November 17th, the event continued the successful “H for Handwashing” campaign, blending education with creativity and fun.
The initiative featured info sessions, exciting games, and creative contests designed to teach children the importance of handwashing while giving them a hands-on understanding of the correct techniques. Activities ranged from reimagined board games like “Germs & Ladders” and “Handwashing Ludo” to interactive sessions that reinforced hygiene habits in an enjoyable way.
This campaign underscores BBM’s commitment to fostering healthier practices among the younger generation, contributing to a healthier and more hygienic Maldives. COO of BBM, A.V.S.
