Al Shaali Marine signs up as Silver Partner of Maldives Travel Awards 2019

Al Shaali (AS) Marine Maldives has signed up as a Silver Partner of Maldives Travel Awards 2019.

At a ceremony held at Hotel Jen in capital Male Tuesday afternoon, Abdulla Suood, President of event organiser Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), and Ismail Shareef, Operations Manager of AS Marine Maldives, signed a partnership agreement.

This is the second year that AS Marine had partnered with MATATO for the Maldives Travel Awards, having participated in the country’s most prestigious travel and tourism awards as a Silver Partner in 2017.

“Al Shaali is one of the leading names in our marine business industry. Having their support and commitment to Maldives Travel Awards adds another important entity to the chain of prominent Maldivian business engaging with this prestigious initiative to recognise the best of Maldivian travel industry,” MATATO President Suood was quoted in a statement, as saying.

“Commercial partners for Maldives Travel Awards represent leading businesses in the travel Industry of Maldives. Al Shaali caters to an important sector of the tourism industry, and Maldives Travel Awards provides a platform for our partners to reach out to leading travel service providers in the country. So this partnership is extension that will build a bridge between hoteliers and our commercial partners.”

Al Shaali Marine Maldives is a joint venture between Al Shaali Marine Dubai and Coastline Investments Pvt Ltd. The main branch of Al Shaali Marine in UAE was established in 1979 and is considered to be a pioneering manufacture in the manufacturing of fibreglass boats and yachts.

The seventh edition of Maldives Travel Awards has already attracted high profile partners, including Alia Investments (Gold Partner) and Allied Insurance (Silver Partner).

Maldives Travel Awards is now open for nomination in 45 categories featured across three editions that collectively represent resorts, guesthouses, hotels, liveaboards and personalities.

Travel businesses delivering outstanding performance in the industry are encouraged to submit applications for the awards before August 15. Nominations are registered through online platform on the Maldives Travel Awards’ official website.

The exclusive Guesthouse Edition features 14 categories, including special accolades for leading guesthouse islands. MATATO also gives special recognitions in three categories. Winners in the Guesthouse Edition are selected based on their ratings on TripAdvisor and popular vote collected through online and SMS voting platforms.

Winners of the Guesthouse Edition will be announced in September at a special function to be hosted in Thoddoo island on Alif Alif atoll.

In 2017, the Guesthouse Edition received more than 175 nominations and registered a record number of 176,000 votes.

The Gala Edition, which is exclusive for resorts, hotels, liveaboards and airlines, features 25 categories.

This year, Maldives Travel Awards will adopt a new format to evaluate and judge the nominees in the Gala Edition. Sixty per cent of the score will be provided by a panel of expert travel professionals selected from leading local and international travel institutions that will evaluate the nominees based on presentations given by them. Popular vote will account for the remaining 40 per cent of the score.

Winners of the Gala Edition will be honoured at the annual Maldives Travel Awards Gala, dubbed as the premier travel event of the year.

In 2017, more than 75 companies registered 278 nomination in the Gala Edition.

Initiated in 2012 MATATO, Maldives Travel Awards celebrate and honour the best tourism and hospitality products in the Maldives whilst fostering relationships with suppliers and local travel agents. From 20 categories in 2012, the awards have now expanded into three editions totalling 55 categories.

MATATO hosts three editions: the People’s Edition, which recognises successful pioneers and long serving individuals in the tourism industry, a Guesthouse Edition, which celebrates the outstanding performance of the up and coming guesthouse sector, and the Grand Gala, which is exclusive for winners in the categories for resorts, airlines and liveaboards.

Hotel Asia Exhibition and International Culinary Challenge is referred to be the hospitality industry event in the Maldives. Bestbuy Maldives, MNU forge partnership to advance hospitality education

The Maldives National University – Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (MNU-FHTS) and Bestbuy Maldives (BBM) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen industry-academic collaboration and advance hospitality education in the Maldives.

The MoU was signed by Dr Aishath Shehenaz Adam, Vice Chancellor of MNU, and Ismail Hilmy, Chairman and Managing Director of BBM, during a ceremony attended by the university’s Chancellor Dr Mahmood Shaugee, senior management, and representatives from both organisations.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in developing a state-of-the-art Food and Beverage Practical Demonstration Kitchen at MNU-FHTS. BBM will support the upgrading of the existing Garde Manger kitchen and classrooms, contributing financially and materially to create a modern, industry-standard learning environment for future hospitality professionals.

Beyond infrastructure, the collaboration will extend to academic and training support, research and innovation in culinary arts, community engagement, and professional networking opportunities, ensuring that students gain practical, real-world experience aligned with industry expectations.

Highlighting the broader purpose of this partnership, BBM stated that, “This is a significant step in the direction of BBM’s vision involving hospitality industry outreach in the Maldives — because tomorrows start today. SATA 2025 announces partnerships; confirms Hotelier Maldives, Maldives Insider as Media Partners

Hotelier Maldives and Maldives Insider have been confirmed as official Media Partners of the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) 2025. The announcement was made during a signing ceremony held at Hulhulé Island Hotel, Maldives, where SATA unveiled its distinguished partners for the 9th edition of the annual awards.

Now in its ninth year, SATA has become a key platform for recognising excellence in South Asia’s tourism and hospitality sector. The partnership with Hotelier Maldives and Maldives Insider will strengthen the awards’ regional visibility and ensure extensive coverage of the event across Maldives and beyond.

This year’s awards ceremony will take place from 19th to 20th September 2025 at Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Sri Lanka, bringing together industry leaders, stakeholders, and innovators from across South Asia.

In addition to the media partnership, SATA 2025 also announced its corporate partners.
