Dusit Thani Maldives unveils all-new handcrafted resort sign
Guests stepping foot onto the arrival jetty as they enter their paradise home of Dusit Thani Maldives are now greeted by an an immediate glimpse of Maldivian history and culture, as the resort has unveiled a new welcome sign created by traditional coral limestone carving.
The sign was revealed by the resort’s General Manager Reinhold Johann with the help of guests, at a management cocktail party held in the main reception.
Carving coral limestone is one of the oldest crafts practiced by Maldivians and was historically used to build temples, mosques, wells and to sculpt statues for worship. Some of the intricate symmetrical and floral designs show strong influences of Islamic art.
