MMPRC, Maldives Getaways kick off marketing seminars for guesthouses
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has kicked off a series of marketing seminars for guesthouses in Maldives.
Conducted in association with local PR firm Maldives Getaways and Guesthouse Association of Maldives, the first session of was held on Tuesday in Rasdhoo island in Alif Alif atoll. Twelve out of 32 registered participants attended the session, which focused on familiarising guesthouse representatives on market trends and statistics. They were also given information on social media marketing and different marketing strategies they can use to promote their guesthouses.
A second seminar was held on Wednesday in the island of Ukulhas in Alif Alif atoll with 37 participants.
Similar marketing seminars will be conducted from March 23 to May 2 in Aa. Dhigurah, V. Thinadhoo, B. Dharavandhoo, Hdh. Hanimaadhoo, Addu City, Laamu atoll, Gdh. Thinadhoo, K. Maafushi, and Hulhumale.
These seminars are part of the new government’s 100-day pledge to to develop and further strengthen local tourism in the Maldives. The objectives of conducting these seminars is to assist guesthouses in Maldives to find potential target markets and familiarise them with different marketing strategies they can use to promote their products.
Maldives, known world over for its upmarket tourism industry, has resorts in the hundreds spread across the archipelago. The industry has in recent years expanded to introduce more affordable segments, including guesthouses and liveaboards. Some 500 guesthouses have started operations over the past five years as the number of travellers that choose to stay in guesthouses rise.
The new government has held a guesthouse symposium to identify and resolve challenges faced by the guesthouse industry.
Meanwhile, the government has established a financing company in order to provide financial and professional assistance to guesthouse businesses.
