MEGA Maldives Successfully Launches Malé – Beijing Route

Maldives Promotion House – MEGA Maldives Airlines has successfully completed the first direct scheduled flight between the two capitals Beijing and Malé. The flight took off from Beijing Capital International Airport to Malé International Airport.

The Malé International Airport was in a festive mood in anticipation of the arrival of this historic first flight by a local airline and was celebrated with traditional Maldivian entertainment. A welcoming committee in traditional formal dress welcomed the passengers with flowers as they exited the aircraft.

Many passengers stopped to take pictures with the members of the welcoming committee and in front of the aircraft. Members of the media were offered a chance to go on-board the aircraft for a brief tour. The flight carried 223 passengers to Malé, who were heading off to various resort destinations in the Maldives.

According to Mega Maldives, Beijing was a key target destination from the very beginning of services by MEGA Maldives Airlines and to have successfully achieved that target is a proud moment to the company, its management and all staff.

The number of Chinese arrivals to Maldives is growing fast, with a total of 52,345 Chinese tourists visiting the Maldives during the first quarter, a rise of 53.2 percent when compared with of the same period in 2010.

“As the world’s most populous nation proves to be a major source of new business for the Maldives’ tourism industry, MEGA Maldives aspires to play a key role in the on-going development of this market,” a MEGA Maldives statement read.

The non-stop capital-to-capital scheduled route from Beijing to the Maldives will invigorate bilateral trade for both Maldivian and Chinese entrepreneurs alike seeking new business opportunities and will contribute to the already close diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
