Finolhu earns five Luxury Childcare Association Awards nominations

Published

on

Finolhu, a Seaside Collection Resort has received five nominations at the Luxury Childcare Association Awards 2026, with recognition spanning sustainable childcare, children’s programming, family experiences, childcare facilities, and baby and toddler care.

The nominations place particular focus on the breadth of Finolhu’s family offering, which has been developed to cater to different stages of childhood rather than centring on a single children’s programme. Alongside dedicated facilities for younger guests, the resort has separate spaces and activities for teenagers, as well as experiences designed for families to enjoy together.

The resort’s Kids Club forms the centre of its younger guests’ programme, combining indoor and outdoor spaces with a changing schedule of creative workshops, games, sports and island-inspired activities. Rather than being entirely removed from the destination, elements of the programme draw on Finolhu’s surroundings, introducing children to the natural environment through activities connected to the island and ocean.

Older children have their own dedicated space at the Teens Hut, conceived as a more independent and informal alternative to the Kids Club. Games, entertainment and social activities give teenagers a place to spend time together, while the separation between the two facilities allows programming to be adapted more closely to different ages and interests.

Provision for babies and toddlers is another element of the resort’s family infrastructure, with dedicated childcare services and age-appropriate facilities intended to make longer stays in the Maldives more practical for families with very young children. This is complemented by family-friendly amenities across the resort, allowing parents to balance time together with opportunities for children to take part in supervised activities.

Finolhu’s setting within the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve also plays a role in its approach to younger guests. Marine education and environmental awareness are incorporated into selected activities, connecting children with the ecosystem surrounding the island. These experiences sit alongside the resort’s wider conservation work, including its coral restoration programme, which maintains two coral nurseries with more than 40 coral trees and has worked with thousands of coral fragments.

Beyond organised childcare, much of the family experience takes place outdoors. Finolhu’s two-kilometre sandbank, beaches and lagoon provide the setting for watersports and island activities, while creative workshops, recreational facilities and entertainment offer alternatives away from the water. The intention is to give families the flexibility to alternate between shared experiences and age-specific activities throughout their stay.

The five nominations at the Luxury Childcare Association Awards reflect this broader approach. Finolhu is nominated for Excellence in Sustainable Childcare, Excellence in Children’s Programming, Excellence in Family Experiences, Excellence in Childcare Facilities and Excellence in Baby & Toddler Care, covering areas that range from physical facilities and supervised care to programming and environmental engagement.

For a resort long associated with its “Island Playground” character, the nominations highlight how that concept extends to its youngest visitors, with dedicated spaces for children and teenagers alongside experiences shaped by the distinctive natural setting of Baa Atoll.

Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives has won three awards at the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) 2026, with Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives and Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives receiving recognition across three categories.

Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives secured Gold in the Leading Surf Resort category for the eighth time and fourth consecutive year, while Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives retained Gold in the Leading Beach Resort category for the second consecutive year. Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives also received Silver in the Nishan Seneviratne Best CSR Programme category.

The 10th edition of SATA was held at Barceló Nasandhura Malé on 8 October 2026, recognising achievements across South Asia’s tourism and hospitality industry, including guest experiences, industry leadership and responsible tourism.

Located in North Malé Atoll, Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives is home to the Pasta Point surf break, which attracts surfers from around the world. The resort’s eighth Gold award in the Leading Surf Resort category reflects its position among the Maldives’ surfing destinations. In addition to surfing, the resort offers water sports, wellness activities and other guest experiences.

“We remain committed to delivering memorable surf experiences and holidays in the Maldives,” said Marlon Robert, General Manager of Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives.

Robert also acknowledged the continued support of guests, the international surfing community and the resort team in securing the recognition.

Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives received its second consecutive Gold award as Leading Beach Resort in recognition of its island setting, which features sandy beaches, a lagoon and a selection of beachfront and overwater accommodation. The resort also offers dining, wellness and recreational activities, providing guests with opportunities to explore the surrounding marine environment.

The resort’s Silver award in the Nishan Seneviratne Best CSR Programme category recognised its efforts to provide dive education and career development opportunities for young people from neighbouring island communities.

Implemented in partnership with Dive & Sail, the resort’s PADI-certified dive centre, the six-day programme enabled nine students aged between 16 and 18 from schools in Keyodhoo and Felidhoo to obtain PADI Open Water Diver certification.

The programme combined theoretical lessons, practical training and supervised dives to promote safe diving practices and reef conservation. It also introduced participants to potential career opportunities in marine tourism.

“These accolades reflect the dedication of our teams and the continued support of our guests, whose trust inspires us to keep raising the standard of our experiences,” said Sanjeeva Perera, Area General Manager, Cinnamon Maldives Resorts.

The three awards recognise the tourism experiences offered by Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives and Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives, as well as Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts’ initiatives in environmental awareness and community engagement across its Maldives properties.
