Voting begins for Adventures of Maldives video competition

Voting began on Sunday for the Adventures of Maldives (Dhivehi Aahitha) video competition.

Submissions for the competition, organised by Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) in association with Six Senses Laamu, can be found as a video playlist, titled Adventures of Maldives Video Submissions, in the videos section of the official Facebook Page of Visit Maldives. To vote, simply watch the videos and give a like to your favourite video.

According to MMPRC, voting will go on until 2pm on November 5 (Maldives time/GMT +5). The most liked and viewed videos will be judged by a panel who will select the winner as well as the top 10 videos of the competition, it said.

The winner and the top 10 finalists will be announced during the first week of December and the awarding of the prize money (MVR 100,230/USD 6500) is set to take place at an event to be held on December 14.

The video competition is a co-promotional marketing activity aimed at showcasing personally shot videos of locals and tourists engaging in adventurous activities throughout the Maldives. The videos are expected to have positive promotional value to the destination.

After years of double-digit growth in tourism, the Maldives has over the recent years observed a slowdown in growth. Tourist arrivals have crossed the one million milestone and is on course to reach 1.5 million by the end of this year, but the country has been struggling to create demand amidst a significant increase in bed capacity.

The government has recently announced new steps to maintain a structured growth in tourism, including a slowdown in leasing islands for resort development and increased marketing efforts in key markets such as China and the Middle East.
