Maldives Awarded the Best Diving Area

Maldives Promotion House – At the Marine Diving & Beach Resort Fair 2011, held recently from 8th July to 10th July 2011 in Tokyo, Japan, Maldives won two remarkable destination awards. Maldives was awarded the “Best Diving Area” and “Best Dreaming Area” awards.

After competing among world famous diving favourites including Palau, Okinawa and Tahiti Maldives beat Palau and Okinawa as the best diving destination, and beat Tahiti and Palau as the best dreaming destination.

The Maldivian Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Ahmed Khaleel, participated in the opening ceremony, and accepted the two destination awards on behalf of Maldives. Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Khaleel, spoke of the threats faced by coral reefs all around the world due to climate change. He also used the opportunity to thank the Government of Japan for its exemplary leadership in the fight against climate change.

Apart from the two destination awards, major resorts of Maldives also won awards at the dive and travel awards. Conrad Maldives Rangali Island won second place in “Best Dive Resort Hotel” category and the second and third place awards in the “Best Liveaboard” category went to Blue shark II and Island Safari Royal from the Maldives.

The Marine Diving Fair is one of the biggest diving and beach resort exhibition in Asia, the Dive & Travel Awards are chosen by the readers of the two most popular diving magazines in Japan, “Travel Diver” and “Marine Diving,” published by the Marine Art Centre of Japan.
