Jumeirah Vittaveli celebrates World Tourism Day 2011

Maldives Promotion House – Yesterday Jumeirah Vittaveli celebrated the World Tourism Day 2011 with local students in an effort to increase cultural and social awareness of the hospitality industry. Jumeirah’s second Maldives resort, Jumeirah Vittaveli, is set to open in December 2011 with 91 villas and suites. Jumeirah Dhevanafushi, located in Gaafu Alifu atoll opened in April this year.

Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide. Each year, World Tourism Day takes a different theme and this year, the theme is “Tourism Linking Cultures”.

Students from Aminiya School for Girls, Ahmadihiyya School, Polytechnic Education and the National University were invited to the Jumeirah Vittaveli site in order to witness the sustainable and environmental procedures being implemented in construction of this new resort. Linking with World Tourism Day’s 2011 theme, students also received a full presentation on Jumeirah’s promise of Stay Different™, which aims to deliver imaginative and exhilarating experiences in culturally connected environments through thoughtful and generous service.

“We are really excited to be hosting our local students here at our new resort. These people will be the future leaders of the hospitality industry and in a country where tourism plays such an important economic role, it is our duty to educate and inform the next generation. I hope that the visit for World Tourism Day provides an interesting foundation for the students and that we are able to provide them with some career inspiration,” Area General Manager for Jumeirah Maldives, Mr. Stefan O. Huemer said.

A mere 20 minute boat ride from Male International Airport lies Jumeirah Vittaveli. Nestled in a spot of astounding beauty, this is the flawless setting for uninterrupted contentment and family recreation. The resort comprises 91 villas and suites, each offering exquisite views of the Indian Ocean. With three restaurants, a Talise Spa, and dedicated kids and separate teenagers club, the resort is ideal for couples, families or groups, bringing personalised excitement to any holiday.
