Volvo Ocean Race To Sail From Maldives

Maldives Promotion House – According to reports world’s famous premier sailing fight, the Volvo Ocean Race is headed towards Maldives. The fight is approaching Maldives for the second part of the third leg of the event. A total of six boats are currently competing in the tournament.

On January 14th fives boats competed in the first part of the third leg in United Arab Emirates, sailing from Abu Dhabi to Sharjah. The boats will then be loaded on an armed ship and transferred to Maldives, in an attempt to avoid threats of pirates. Maldives Association of Yacht Agents, MAYA, also confirmed that the second face of ongoing Volvo Ocean Race will flag off from the coast of Maldives.

According to the race organizers preparations are in place against any possible attack from pirates. Some of the sailing course has also been offset and details on whereabouts of competing boats are also closely safeguarded. According to MAYA, in the next phase of the race, the Volvo Ocean riders will sail off from Hulhumalé port to reach Sanya, China.

Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 began in October from Spain, and will sail over 39,000 nautical miles over the course of nine months. Each competing vessel has a sailing team of 11 professionals. The next challenge in the Volvo Ocean race is scheduled for 22nd January from Hulhumalé.
