Kuramathi Maldives secures Travelife Gold certification for third year

Published

on

Kuramathi Maldives has secured the Travelife Gold certification for the third consecutive year.

Apart from being a splendid choice for honeymooners, families and food connoisseurs, the 1.8-kilometre resort island actively contributes to the environment and the natural surroundings thanks to the green initiatives and eco-conscious thinking integrated in the daily operations.

Kuramathi’s Eco Centre has taken several initiatives over the years.

At present, the food and beverage department is undergoing an innovative process to replace single use plastic straws with biodegradable paper straws, and paper coasters is one project that has paved way for a significant change. Usage of home-made distilled, purified water in glass bottles tackles the consumption of plastic bottles, while electric buggies for commutation limits the utilisation of fuel.

“The progressive ideas adapt to the changing habits of the world and its major problems pertaining to climate change. As the world gears up for more conservative and sustainable measures to limit the carbon footprint and preserve the beauty of our planet, more and more research is done to play our part to educate, inspire and cultivate and harness the knowledge,” an announcement by the resort read.

Recently, Kuramathi has also introduced coral-friendly sunscreen lotions to combat the damage of floating chemicals that is detrimental to coral growth. This is part of an intricate drive to encourage and foster guest’s support in using coral friendly products, to protect and upkeep the pristine surroundings.

Kuramathi is one of the first resorts to open in the Maldives and is part of Universal Resorts of Universal Enterprises, a 100 percent Maldivian company and the pioneers of tourism in the Maldives.

An emerald jewel in the turquoise Maldivian waters, Kuramathi is a stunning island retreat with acres of luxuriant vegetation surrounded by spectacular beaches tapering into an endless sandbank. Villas blend contemporary design and nature, and are set on the beach, amongst lush gardens or over water. Four poster beds, open-air bathrooms, rainfall showers or Jacuzzi, large outdoor decks with inviting daybeds or sun loungers, are just some of the creature-comforts enjoyed by guests. Dining options are diverse with many restaurants, bars and great-value all-inclusive packages, topped off with Maldivian service – welcoming, genuine and friendly.

Travelife is an international sustainability certification scheme that helps its 1,300 hotel members around the world improve their environmental, social and economic impacts cost effectively. Hotels that meet the Travelife standard are formally recognised with a Travelife award to promote their achievements.

To achieve a Travelife award and become certified, hotels must become a Travelife member and prove they meet the Travelife assessment criteria. They will then receive a Travelife Gold award, an award plaque and the right to use the Travelife certification mark to showcase their sustainability achievements to their customers.

In 2023, the Maldives welcomed 187,118 Chinese tourists, marking a significant recovery in numbers.
