The Island President Premiers

Maldives Promotion House – The dramatic Hollywood-style feature documentary portraying the issue of global warming and the efforts by President Mohamed Nasheed to protect Maldives, The Island President, has been premiered with the president present.

The 90 minute documentary film highlights the Maldives’ efforts to combat climate change and rising sea levels, was premiered at the Toronto’s Bell Lightbox Cinema 2, during the Toronto International Film Festival. The film portrays President Mohamed Nasheed’s, journey from the Copenhagen Climate Summit 2009, to the present day Maldives.

Made by the Oscar and Emmy-winning American documentary film company, Actual Films, and produced by Richard Berge and Bonni Cohen, the movie is directed by John Shenk. The film includes previously unseen recordings of the Maldives government’s preparations for Copenhagen, as well as dramatic behind the scenes footage during the summit itself.

President Mohamed Nasheed and the First Lady Laila Ali are currently on an official visit to the United Kingdom, Canada, France and Switzerland.
