Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for his role as Ser Jaime Lannister in the HBO series Game of Thrones, has arrived in Maldives.

Nikolaj, who also serves as a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, arrived in the Maldives Sunday afternoon and was welcomed at the main Velana International Airport by Shoko Noda, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative to the Maldives.

The Danish actor, producer and screenwriter is in the Maldives to participate in a dinner organised by UNDP to raise funds for its Climate Action Project. The invitation-only dinner is to be held at Hotel Jen in capital Male on Tuesday.

The Climate Action Project is an initiative by UNDP Maldives in partnership with its local partners with an aim of unlocking a community’s potential to respond to and manage climate related emergencies in the Maldives.

Born and raised in Copenhagen, Nikolaj has worked in both English and foreign language cinema, winning acclaim in his country for his breakout role in 1994’s Nightwatch. His first major US film role was as Gary Gordon in 2001 war flick, Black Hawk Down. Since then, he has appeared in a number of well-received films, including Kingdom of Heaven, Wimbledon and Gods of Egypt.

But Nikolaj became widely known for his Games of Thrones role of Ser Jaime Lannister, a much admired soldier who is known as the Kingslayer. He is also secretly sleeping with his twin sister Cersei Lannister, and later loses his hand which causes his ability to suffer.

Maldives is amongst the most sought after destinations by celebrity travellers from around the world.

Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio and American TV personality Paris Hilton have recently partied in the Maldives, while the likes of English singer and television presenter Rochelle Humes and her husband Marvin, and British TV personality Billie Faiers have all declared the Maldives as their favourite part of the world for a relaxing getaway. Another British singer Perrie Edwards, English actress Millie Mackintosh and the Beckhams have also fell in love with the white sands and the blue skies of the Maldives.
