Amilla Fushi to open in December
Maldives.net.mv – The Small Maldives Island Co. is doing their final touches to deliver the unexpected with ‘Nu-luxury at its finest’ by opening Amilla Fushi in December.
The words Amilla Fushi which are Maldivian for ‘my island home’ describe the central theme of the resort. The resort will offer guests a choice of 71 rooms with the smallest measuring a generous 200 square metres, and the largest a palatial 3,000 square metres.
The 1200 metre pool is one of the largest in the Maldives. The Spa, in the silent, verdant garden of the Wild Grove offers fifteen treatment rooms as well as yoga and fitness pavilions. With this number of rooms, each guest receives a complimentary fifty minute spa treatment every day.
Kid’s Jungle, set among the trees as well as the Kid’s Zone and Teens games area, tennis court and range of water sports and Dive Centre. Amilla’s ”house reef” even has its own ”Blue Hole” dive site within snorkelling distance of the beach.
“The Maldives has evolved into one of the most sought after luxury resort destinations where resorts have their own island and house reefs abound. It is evolving, however, from being a honeymoon destination to a haven for celebrities and high end families who want anonymity and true luxury for their holiday experiences ” said Michael Flynn, Chairman of The Small Maldives Island Co.
”We are bespoke operators, exclusively in the Maldives. We understand the culture and want to give our guests a genuine Maldivian experience, but with an effortless, understated sense of luxury ”said Director Tom McLoughlin. “But while we are unashamedly all about luxury, we want to be different by trying to avoid ”bill-shock”. We charge a fair price for the accommodation, but wi-fi and breakfast are free, as are the water sports and we are very pleased to offer the daily spa treatment at no cost. And no expense has been spared with the generous supply of Aesop toiletries”.
”Think homes, not rooms or suites” added Flynn. ”We are very excited about the uniqueness of the accommodation at Amilla. You can buy a three bedroom home here with a fifty year lease, or, for a slightly shorter stay there are beach, lagoon, ocean lagoon and ocean reef houses, plus twelve metre high tree houses, all with private pools” .
The Small Maldives Island Co. will open their second property, Finolhu with luxury beach concept is set to be completed in late 2015. Guests will be able to move from one island resort to the other, enjoying the different personalities of each.

NH Collection Maldives Reethi Resort reopens after six-month renovation
NH Collection Maldives Reethi Resort has officially reopened on 21 December following a six-month renovation programme aimed at upgrading accommodation, dining venues, and leisure facilities while preserving the island’s natural character.
Located in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the resort is accessible by a 35-minute seaplane transfer from Velana International Airport. The property is situated close to Hanifaru Bay, a well-known marine area recognised for seasonal manta ray and whale shark activity.

The resort features 105 beach and overwater villas. As part of the renovation, new Beach Villas with private plunge pools have been introduced, alongside refreshed overwater villas offering lagoon views. Existing villas have also undergone upgrades to align with NH Collection’s brand standards.

Dining outlets at the resort have been refurbished, with a focus on offering a range of cuisines. Guests can also access a variety of water sports and marine-based activities, supported by the resort’s proximity to key dive and snorkelling sites in the atoll.

Wellness facilities have been enhanced with the reopening of the resort’s spa, which now offers updated treatment spaces. Recreational and leisure areas across the island have also been improved as part of the renovation works.
With its reopening, NH Collection Maldives Reethi Resort resumes operations as part of the NH Collection portfolio in the Maldives, targeting leisure travellers seeking access to Baa Atoll’s marine environment alongside upgraded accommodation and facilities.
