Centara marks World Ocean’s Day
Maldives.net.mv – Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa Maldives has marked the World Oceans Day by going with the day’s theme ‘Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet, and we’re making a special effort to stop plastic pollution’. The resort’s staff members and guests joined hands for the event to clean the lagoon and reef around the island.
World Oceans Day, held every June 8th, is the United Nations-recognized day of ocean celebration and action. People all over our blue planet organize celebrations to support action to protect the ocean.
Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa Maldives, which has always operated a strong policy on environmental protection and conservation, became the first resort in the South Ari Atoll to receive Green Fins certification. Green Fins is a programme of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Reef-World Foundation and is managed in Maldives by a national team led by the Environmental Protection Agency under the Ministry of Environment and Energy. Along with Maldives, the organisation is also active in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
In addition to the resort also have a Coral growing programme designed to rehabilitate parts of the reef that have stopped growing and promote the growth of new coral.
