BITE has been one of the important and influential platforms for tourism networking and business transactions in China; a great avenue to build new partnerships and businesses for the Maldivian participants. The first day of the expo was dedicated for the corporate only while the next 2 days were open to the trade and public. Many Chinese and foreign tourism organisations, media and travel-related companies such as airlines, travel agencies, resorts, cruises, hotels & restaurants, etc participated in the exhibition. Delegations from more than 50 countries presented their products to the Chinese market.
The destination presentation sessions from exhibiting partners on their latest travel products and services were a major highlight of the show. Destination presentation from the Maldives was presented on the 16th June 2012. Apart from that press conferences and seminars on tourism aspects were held during the exhibition.
Subsequent to the exhibition, as a BITE Post-event, MMPRC has also organized a Media & Travel Trade workshop which will take place tomorrow, 18th of June 2012 at the Kempinski Hotel Beijing Lufthansa Centre. The workshop will provide the Maldivian co-exhibitors the opportunity to meet key tour operators and media partners from China. There are already 80 Chinese key tour operators and 20 media partners confirmed for the event. Each co-exhibitor will get a table to display their products and present to the media partners and Chinese buyers who will walk around to get news about Maldives, new products, establish business connections and rapport.
China has been the number one market for the Maldives since 2011 and is remarkably remaining at the top. This year, between January to May, Maldives recorded a total of 73,339 tourist arrivals from the Chinese market, indicating a growth of 12.6% compared to the same period in 2011.
