St. Regis Maldives wins continental title at Prix Versailles global architecture awards

St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort has been named the hotel in Africa and West Asia with the best exterior design, at Prix Versailles 2017.

The continental Special Prize for Exterior – Africa and West Asia in the Hotels category was presented at the grand finale of Prix Versailles held on May 12 at the UNESCO headquarters in French capital Paris.

St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort was amongst 70 continental winners. Properties from six major regions around the globe — Africa and West Asia, North America, Central America, the South and the Caribbean, Central Asia and the Northeast, South Asia and the Pacific, and Europe — competed for the continental titles.

In addition, world titles were awarded to 12 projects in four categories: Shops and Stores, Shopping Malls, Hotels and Restaurants. They are:

  • Shops and Stores: Dior Miami in Florida, United States (Prix Versailles 2017); Hangzhou Zhongshuge in Hangzhou, China (Special Prize Interior); and Chanel – temporary store in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (Special Prize Exterior).
  • Shopping Malls: Tokyu Plaza Ginza in Tokyo, Japan (Prix Versailles 2017); ARG Shopping Mall in Tehran, Iran (Special Prize Interior); and Lideta Mercato in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (Special Prize Exterior).
  • Hotels: Chablé – Yucatan Peninsula in Chocholá, Mexico (Prix Versailles 2017); Spedition in Thun, Switzerland (Special Prize Interior); and Mar Adentro in San José del Cabo, Mexico (Special Prize Exterior).
  • Restaurants: Illusion in Doha, Qatar (Prix Versailles 2017); Shukufuku Japanese Bento in Melbourne, Australia (Special Prize Interior); and The Dancing Pavilion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Special Prize Exterior).

Actively promoted by UNESCO and International Union of Architects, the Prix Versailles has become the World Architecture Award for stores, hotels and restaurants. It is an original initiative launched in 2015 to foster better interaction between the economy and culture.

BBM expands retail presence with new Hulhumalé outlet

Bestbuy Maldives (BBM) opened a new wholesale store in Hulhumalé Phase 2 on Monday.

The outlet is located on the ground floor of Lot 20286, Nirolhu Magu, and is intended to improve access to BBM’s imported goods for residents of Hulhumalé Phase 2 and for businesses operating in the area.

According to the company, the opening forms part of its plan to expand services closer to customers in line with population growth in Hulhumalé.

With the opening of the new store, BBM’s full range of imported and distributed products will be available at the Hulhumalé Phase 2 location. These include consumer goods from international brands such as Lifebuoy, Vaseline and Unilever.

The store will also stock wholesale food products from brands including Daily, Cavin’s and Redman.

BBM has supplied goods to resorts, hotels and retail outlets across the Maldives for several years.

Ataraxis Grand & Spa hosts integrated work-and-dive corporate retreat in Fuvahmulah

Ataraxis Grand & Spa recently hosted a week-long, closed corporate offsite in Fuvahmulah for a US-based artificial intelligence company, highlighting the island’s growing suitability for integrated work-and-experience retreats. The retreat brought a group of 36 international professionals to the property, which was reserved exclusively for the programme.

Designed as a private company offsite, the stay combined structured daily work sessions with guided diving and beginner-friendly surf experiences, creating a balanced format that blended focused collaboration with physical reset.
