Soneva Secret makes Condé Nast Traveller’s 2025 Hot List of best new hotels

Published

on

Every year, the editors of Condé Nast Traveller dedicate months to exploring new travel experiences around the world, from groundbreaking dining concepts to reimagined retreats and ambitious new hotel openings. Now in its 29th edition, the Hot List is considered one of the most anticipated recognitions in the global travel and hospitality industry. This year’s theme? Joy. A fitting choice for a list that includes zip-lining to dinner in the Maldives, treehouse sleepovers in Kenya, and fine dining in unexpected corners of the world.

One of the standout selections in the 2025 list is Soneva Secret, the newest ultra-luxury concept from Soneva, which continues to push the boundaries of barefoot luxury in the Maldives. Located in Haa Dhaalu Atoll in the far north of the archipelago, Soneva Secret invites guests into a world of intimacy, privacy, and personalised service — reimagined through a hyper-exclusive lens.

Comprising just 14 villas, Soneva Secret embodies the group’s signature sustainable luxury with an even greater emphasis on privacy and bespoke experiences. Each villa comes with a dedicated “Barefoot Guardian” and “Barefoot Assistant,” ensuring every aspect of the stay is curated to the individual preferences of each guest. Some villas even feature retractable roofs for stargazing, waterslides directly into the turquoise lagoon, and direct access to thriving coral reefs.

True to Soneva’s commitment to wellness, sustainability, and fine cuisine, the property offers unique culinary experiences, including dinners on a castaway island, open-air beach kitchens, and a new interpretation of experiential dining that begins with a zip-line ride through the forest canopy. The resort also features glassblowing workshops, wellness therapies, and tailor-made adventures designed around guest interests.

Soneva Secret’s inclusion on the Hot List places it alongside other global trailblazers redefining travel. It also reinforces the Maldives’ position as a leader in ultra-premium, experience-led tourism.

With this recognition, Soneva Secret joins a prestigious global club of new hotels that are not only raising the bar for luxury but are also rethinking what travel can be — joyful, personal, and unforgettable.

For the Maldives, this recognition is more than just another accolade. It is a testament to the archipelago’s continuing allure and its growing portfolio of innovative, world-class hospitality offerings.

JOALI Maldives celebrates retention of One MICHELIN Key

Published

on

JOALI Maldives, the Maldives’ first art-immersive resort, has retained One MICHELIN Key, reaffirming its place among the MICHELIN Guide’s recognised hotel experiences and celebrating an island shaped by creativity, meaningful connection and discovery.

At the heart of JOALI Maldives is the Joy of Creative Living – a philosophy that extends far beyond its art collection. Here, creativity becomes a thread connecting the entire island experience, from art and design to culinary expression, wellbeing, nature and experiences created for every generation.

More than a resort, JOALI Maldives is conceived as a destination within the destination: a world to explore at its own pace, where guests are invited not only to encounter creativity, but to engage with it, draw inspiration from it and find new ways to express and discover themselves.

An island shaped by art and imagination

Art is woven throughout the landscape of JOALI Maldives, transforming the island into an immersive creative journey. Contemporary artworks and installations appear across unexpected corners of the resort, encouraging moments of curiosity and discovery as guests move through the island.

This creative spirit extends beyond observing art. At the Ceramics Studio and through artist-led experiences, guests can experiment with materials, ideas and forms of expression, turning inspiration into something personal. Creativity becomes participatory – an opportunity to make, learn and see the world from a different perspective.

Culinary art as a form of discovery

Across JOALI Maldives, gastronomy becomes its own creative language. Diverse culinary concepts bring together craftsmanship, storytelling, culture and imagination, inviting guests to experience food not simply as dining, but as another form of artistic expression. From refined culinary journeys to interactive experiences and unexpected flavours, each table offers an opportunity to discover something new. Chefs become storytellers and creators, using ingredients, techniques and presentation to transform each dining experience into an exploration of the senses.

Creativity through wellbeing

Creative Living also finds expression in moments of wellbeing and reconnection. Through immersive wellness experiences, movement, mindfulness and encounters with the natural surroundings, guests are encouraged to slow down and create space for themselves.

Wellbeing at JOALI Maldives becomes part of a broader journey of discovery – an opportunity to reconnect with the body and mind, explore new practices and return to everyday life with renewed inspiration and perspective.

A creative world for every generation

At JOALI Maldives, creativity has no age. The island invites children, parents and grandparents to discover together, while offering each generation the freedom to follow its own curiosity.

At Muramas Kids Club, younger guests enter a world centred around four themes – Create, Play, Discover and Move – with experiences designed to encourage imagination, exploration and self-expression. Through art, nature, movement and hands-on discovery, children are given the space to explore what inspires them and create from it.

Beyond the Kids Club, shared island experiences bring generations together through creativity, nature, gastronomy and play. Rather than simply spending time side by side, families are invited to discover something new together, exchange perspectives and create meaningful memories across generations.

A destination within the destination

From its artworks and architecture to its restaurants, wellbeing experiences, natural surroundings and spaces dedicated to creativity, JOALI Maldives has been designed as an island to be discovered.

A walk may lead to an unexpected artwork; an afternoon may become an opportunity to create; a meal may introduce a new culture or perspective; and an experience shared as a family may inspire a new interest. Each encounter contributes to a larger journey shaped by curiosity and the freedom to explore.

The retention of One MICHELIN Key recognises this distinctive approach to hospitality and reinforces JOALI Maldives’ commitment to creating experiences that go beyond the traditional idea of an island escape.

Through the Joy of Creative Living, JOALI Maldives continues to offer a place where guests of every generation can be inspired by their surroundings, discover new perspectives and, through creativity, discover more of themselves.

Kandima Maldives takes Family Activities & Entertainment honours at UK Travel Awards

Published

on

Kandima Maldives has been named Winner of the Family Activities & Entertainment category at the Family Traveller Awards 2026, hosted by Family Traveller, the UK’s leading family travel brand, at a ceremony held at riverside venue The Swan on London’s South Bank on Friday 11 September.

The awards drew hundreds of entries across 19 categories spanning hotels and villas, tour operators, cruise lines, destinations and the wider travel industry. An independent panel of family travel journalists shortlisted finalists in each category, before thousands of public votes produced the winners.

The win is a recognition to Kandima’s efforts in opening the Maldives to groups and families, with island infrastructure purpose-built to welcome multigenerational families, accessible room rates to suit different budgets, and a full-year events calendar that offers groups real reasons to travel together for shared adventures and memories of a lifetime.

The resort has long positioned itself against the Maldives’ traditional honeymoon-only narrative, championing the destination as a haven for every age group. Newer launches this year, including Kandima Running Club and Fresh Labs’ foraging and farm tours, turn everyday movement and island agriculture into social activities that parents and children can undertake together.

Major attractions that opened doors in recent years, from Fast Track, the Maldives’ longest and fastest asphalt go-karting circuit, to PlaySpace, a groundbreaking entertainment hub bringing together family gaming, thematic escape room adventures and VR experiences for older children and grown-ups, also shaped Kandima into a destination that grows alongside its guests, across life stages and generations, and evolving traveller preference for more active escapes.

“Winning this award means a great deal. We would like to thank all guests and partners who have voted for us and have experienced Kandima over the years. We’ve always believed a great family holiday is about balance – with the freedom to come together as a group and just as easily find a moment of your own. It’s a philosophy we will continue to stand by, with more in the making,” said Dermot Birchall, General Manager of Kandima Maldives.

Looking on, plans are in place to develop an Adventure Park with new outdoor experience zones to bridge the gap between children’s play and adult recreation, with a programme of challenge-based and active pursuits for collective discovery and team building.
