Centara Maldives Wins As Best Hotel in Indian Ocean
Maldives Promotion House – Centara Grand Island Resort and Spa Maldives recently won the Virgin Holidays Golden Award 2011 for Best Hotel in Indian Ocean. The award, which was presented by Virgin Holidays, during the World Travel Mart held in London last November, was received by Centara’s Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing, Chris Bailey.
Centara Grand, managed by Thailand’s largest hotel operator Centara Hotels and Resorts, is designed in a colonial style with whitewashed timber buildings and meandering boardwalks that lead to the guest accommodation, restaurants and other facilities.
The resort offers a choice of 112 suites and villas suitable for individual travellers, honeymoon couples and family groups, along with a ‘resort within a resort’ accommodation experience, the Island Club. The resort also features a variety of dining options, pools, recreation activities, sports and fitness facilities, a bar and lounge with nightly entertainment, a SPA Cenvaree, and a Kids’ Club.
Centara Hotels and Resorts will open its second resort in the Maldives next year. Named as the Centara Giraavaru Resort & Spa Maldives, the new resort will be only 15 minutes by speedboat from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport. Featuring 110 over water villas, and 30 more on the island, the 140-villa resort is estimated to cost USD53 million.
They have also opened a training institute in the resort to prepare the youth for a career in the hospitality industry. The newly opened institute will act as a branch of the National University’s Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies. The trainees are selected from the neighbouring local communities and the courses will last for a period of six months. According to the resort the institute will teach modules on food and beverages and housekeeping.
