AMET Majesty Launches to Maldives in October

Maldives Promotion House – India’s first cruise ship, MV AMET Majesty, will soon set sail from its home port in Chennai to Maldives. AMET Shipping India Pvt. Ltd, initially ran its cruise liner in a sailing trip on the Chennai high seas and also covered Port Blair, Karaikal, Phuket, Langkavi and Trincomalee.

The Chennai-based AMET Cruises is all set to launch its cruise services from Kochi from the first week of October. The vessel MV AMET Majesty will sail from here to Maldives, Lakshadweep and will also cruise on the Kochi high seas.

The first cruise will set sail from Kochi on the first week of October and the itinerary will continue up to April 2012.

Initially, AMET Cruises offers one high sea sailing, one two-night sailing to the Lakshwadeep and one four-night sailing to the Maldives on a weekly basis. AMET Cruises will make cruise tourism accessible to the burgeoning urban middle-class households in the country, they added

AMET Cruises is the second cruise liner and the first Indian to start a service after their new shipping policy was approved in June 2008.

As many as 90,000 Indians go abroad on cruises, said Thomas C. Thottathil, a spokesman for Cox and Kings Ltd. “The market is growing at 15-20% a year,” he said.

The ship that can carry as many as 1,000 passengers will also train students graduating from AMET University, a maritime education institute with a deemed university status run by the same company.
